Women’s Cricket World Cup: Tammy Beaumont thinks England are ready to ‘fight’ against Sri Lanka | Cricket News

Tammy Beaumont believes England are ready for their test against Sri Lanka as they aim to extend their record to three wins from three at the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

England are the only team in the tournament to make it two wins from two matches and sit second with four points, with defending champions Australia in first place with five points from three matches after their clash against Sri Lanka failed.

Charlotte Edwards’ side enjoyed an emphatic victory against South Africa, beating them by 10 wickets, then faltered against Bangladesh but eventually secured victory.

“We’ve watched the other matches and we have as much information as we can. We know the other match here was a big turnaround,” Beaumont said, ahead of the Sri Lanka clash, live. Air sports cricket.

“We’ve talked a lot about how we want to go about it with our batting to counteract those conditions. It doesn’t look like we’re on a new wicket, so as a batter I don’t expect the ball to slide nicely.

“We’re probably learning that it’s not going to be pretty. You can’t go for those big shots too early.

“We may have to try a little harder and someone will have to earn the right to think big.”

Nadine de Klerk’s incredible innings of 84 off just 54 balls helped South Africa record an improbable three-wicket victory over India in the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

It won’t just be about absorbing Sri Lankan pressure, with England bringing their own arsenal of spinners to the party.

World number 1 Sophie Ecclestone and compatriot Linsey Smith both have five wickets so far, with Charlie Dean and Alice Capsey chipping in with a further six.

“England have produced some very good players over the years, but the four or five we have at the moment seem to be doing very well,” Beaumont said.

“The fact that someone like Sarah Glenn is not currently in the XI and is one of the most successful leg-spinners in the world is a sign of the depth we have.

England lose early wicket, survive ‘costly’ fall and controversial DRS against Bangladesh in World Cup.

“Ours are up there…I don’t necessarily like to compare, but I can tell you that facing them in the nets isn’t much fun.

“It’s a big challenge and it really prepares you to face any player you’re going to face at the World Cup.”

England’s fractious victory over Bangladesh came amid a series of questionable refereeing decisions, with Heather Knight seeing three on-field dismissals overturned by the TV manager.

At least one of them came as a surprise to Knight herself, but Beaumont offered a word of support to those charged with making the big decisions.

“Referees are human, like all of us,” she said.

“If I miss a drive and end up behind, I’ve made a mistake… everyone makes mistakes. We obviously make a mistake if it hits our pads or goes near the outside edge. So it’s great that we have DRS available and that’s exactly what it’s there for.”
