The public grew up to love the ways in which death, more an invisible force of wickedness than a classic Slasher bad, wins his victims. Why stab them in the back when you could make them fall into the fault of a series of ridiculous accidents Rube Goldberg which would be hilarious if they were not so horrible? Everyone has their favorite death of the series: an explosion of grill, acupuncture needles, a hose broken in the face via airbag activation, a swimming pool drain, a tanning bed … The list is growing again and again. In Final destination 2Our intrepid protagonists head for Florida for spring holidays when one of them has a premonition of a deadly stack caused by a forest operating truck. Anything that might go wrong. The newspapers fly. Cars accumulate. Things are going to boom. The blood is splashed on the highway. In a franchise full of very memorable scenes, there is just something in these fucking newspapers that persist longer in our imagination. Certainly, the marketing people of Warner Bros. Canada know it and were smart enough / badly to use it to sell the last film. A bloody log truck with a “How’s my driving?” The rear sticker will go around Ontario and Quebec this month, ensuring that drivers around the world decide to stay at home in the foreseeable future.

What if the elevator crashes while you are there? What if the hair dryer in the neighboring room is somehow found in the bath? What if the roller coasters are derailed by a wandering sheet? Completely neutral acts could lead to your disappearance: the bad turn on the road, the placement of your drink at the bar, crossing the road. Forest trucks lead through the country without any problem all the time. If they were really a risky business, no business would use or invest for them. We know it. And yet … we have all seen a car accident. It is not so difficult to imagine that the accumulations with two cars become twenty …
While death has become more a conventional slasher in their revenge hunts in subsequent films, the idea of an invisible imperative force of almost bureaucratic precision remains effective. They just do a job and you tried to do it kissing with the figures. Death does not care if you try to reason or plead or make fun of their work. Everyone will meet the same fate possibly and using the available tools, there is a good chance that it is brutal. There is the catharsis in there because we like to watch disorderly and coarse things, but injustice is also what makes us so frightened. Perhaps death has a plan for us, a design that must be accomplished, but in the end, it comes for all of us, and there is nothing, but I hope it is fast, painless and dignified. And for many of us, this will not be the case. Many people die in car accidents after all.
One of the reasons why Ari Aster’s work upsets me is that he intensively captures this paranoid feeling that we all achieve occasionally that life is there to do, that our worst fears are true, and yes, everything is bad for us and only us. THE Final destination Movies are strange bed companions with tastes Hereditary And Beautiful a fear in this regard. Being chased by the biggest villain of all and having their machinations is so surprisingly cruel to our advantage is perhaps the biggest nightmare of all. Even if you do not believe in an all-powerful figure that makes such decisions, the injustice inherent in life and death is inevitable. So, you cannot be surprised when people see these forest trucks and decide to change the routes on their return home. Irrationality could kill us or cure us. What risk do you want to take?
