The purple rumor mill is here for the October 19th, Sunday edition of all the Minnesota Vikings post-bye week foods.

The second installment of Vikings rumors for the week is here, focusing on Aaron Jones, Max Brosmer and free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr.

The club hopes to go 4-2 on Sunday when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles at US Bank Stadium. But a few hours before that, let’s take a look at the current rumor mill.

Vikings Rumors for Week 7, Part II

Here’s what’s circulating in the Vikings rumor mill.

Rumor: Aaron Jones will return next week.

Aaron Jones’ four-game stint on IR ends after this weekend’s game against the Eagles, setting him up for a return on Thursday, October 23 against the Chargers.

A source said VikingsTerritory that Jones “is 100% ready to go” and “could have played this weekend but is on IR.” So, barring any unforeseen circumstances, expect it to activate Monday or Tuesday – simple as that.

The Vikings picked up a decisive win in London against Cleveland in Week 5, a result that could have kept the season alive as the schedule begins to tighten up. The offense could use a boost, and Jones’ return should provide one.

Depending on how Sunday goes against the Eagles, Jones will either join a team that’s in great shape after beating the defending champions, or one that will be scrambling to avoid a skid before facing the Lions in Week 9. Either way, his presence helps.

That said, the RB1 position may not automatically be his. Jordan Mason made the most of the opportunity, showing flash and reliability outside of a costly fumble in London. Four years younger and thriving in his expanded role, Mason made a real case for retaining the top job – Jones or no Jones.

Rumor: Max Brosmer is more than ready to take the reins of QB1 if necessary.

If the Vikings end up needing Max Brosmer for whatever reason, they won’t care – at least not according to one of the men running the offense.

“No one is going to question Max’s preparation for a football game. It doesn’t matter if he’s supposed to be the emergency 3, or the 2, or if he was a starter. We all feel good, intangible, about everything that Max brings,” Phillips told reporters Tuesday, five days before the Vikings hosted the Philadelphia Eagles.

The mention of Brosmer caught a few people off guard, given that the main debate this week was between McCarthy and Wentz. Still, Brosmer has already recorded some small but telling moments this season.

He saw some late action in the Bengals’ demolition in Week 3 — a franchise-record blowout that essentially served as a preseason tune-up at the end. Two weeks later in London, when Wentz was briefly hit, Brosmer came to kneel during halftime.

It’s a small sample size, but enough to show that the rookie has already quietly left his fingerprints on the 2025 season.

Rumor: Asante Samuel Jr. is expected to sign somewhere in the NFL soon. Why not Minnesota?

Last month, NFL writer Adam La Rose wrote: “Asante Samuel Jr. remains one of the top free agents still available heading into Week 1. A deal shouldn’t be expected anytime soon, however. Samuel underwent neck surgery in April and his recovery process has dictated the nature of his market. The latest development on that front, courtesy of ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, is that Samuel is expected to have a CT scan in October to make sure his spinal fusion was correct. a success. »

“It is after this point that the 25-year-old will look to sign with a new team. Interest has existed in this matter throughout the offseason. Samuel visited the Saints in May after being housed by the Cardinals prior to his surgery. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native has also been in contact with the Dolphins. Comments made on Miami’s culture under Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel by father of Samuel led to speculation that an agreement would not be feasible between the parties. Instead, a deal with the Dolphins could still be reached at some point.”

If Samuel Jr. is healthy, the here and now should be the time to sign a contract.

The Vikings were linked to Samuel Jr. pretty hot and heavy in March and April in the rumor mill – from a game of telephone.

It always made sense for Minnesota to add an additional cornerback with Jeff Okudah as CB3. He didn’t produce at a high level. Maybe the Samuel Jr. rumor will come true.
