A ceremony imbued with tradition
Hold on Friday before the Memorial Day every year, the Flying of Blue Angels is one of the many traditions of the ceremony, and the army is very traditional.
Graduates heard the superintendent of the American Naval Academy Vice-Adm. Yvette M. Davids and the secretary of the navy John C. Phelan. This year’s vice-president was vice-president JD Vance, a veteran of the Marine Corps who enlisted in high school.

The vice-president told graduates that they would develop tools and direct in a new century in which the country would adapt to a new war.
Vance told graduates: “It will be you, the graduates gathered here today, who will open the way to us.
This marked the first remark of Vance as vice-president of one of the military service academies.
“The extraordinary education you have received is an investment from the American people, an investment not only in your courage, but in the strength of your mind and the promise of your leadership because your nation is more easily based knowing that we have the most brilliant strategists and tacticians,” said Vance.

The 2025 class consists of 1,049 graduates – 751 men and 298 women. A class member obtained his diploma but was not put into service on Friday.
Instead, the security of naval football, Rayuan Lane III, of Jessup, was one of the Marylanders considered – and selected – in the draft of the NFL 2025. The Jacksonville jaguars selected Gilman’s alum in the sixth round.
“I am excited and recognizing that the Jacksonville jaguars believed in me as a person player and footballer to give me this unique opportunity,” Lane in a statement published by Navy Football in April. “I would like to thank my family, my teammates and coaches at the Gilman School and the Naval Academy and all the others who helped me to cross this trip. I am delighted to have the opportunity to be both a Jacksonville Jaguar and an officer of the Marine Corps.”
Lane is the fourth naval football player to be drafted in the past 11 years and the first defensive player to be drafted since Bob Kuberski was selected in the seventh round by Green Bay packers in 1993.
There are also 14 foreign national graduate students who come from Egypt, Fiji, Georgia, Indonesia, Jordan, Maldives, Peru, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Tunisia.
The class of the best graduates of 2025 is:
- Owen Michael O’malley, of Pittsburgh, a genius of robotics and control with honors that will set up a brand in the American Navy.
- Andrzej Jakub Korlacki, Lincoln, Nebraska, a major in nuclear engineering and computer engineering who will pass the position of 2nd lieutenant of the United States Marine Corps.
- Tenlea Whelan Radack, from Washington, DC, mathematics with honors that will set up a brand in the American navy.
Since the Academy Foundation in 1845, around 92,000 aspirants from Mid have graduated from the Naval Academy, including the promotion of 2025.
Major Geoff Ball, Pierre Deverne and Sondra Duplantis are honorary members of the 2025 class.
