The co-founder of Nike, Phil Knight and his wife, the commitment to the commitment of $ 2 billion in Oregon Cancer Center, says the university

Portland, Oregon. – Portland, Oregon. (AP) – The co -founder of Nike, Phil Knight, and his wife Penny Knight committed to a donation of $ 2 billion in Oregon Health & Knight Cancer Institute of Science University, announced Thursday, describing it as the greatest gift to an American university.

“This donation is an unprecedented investment in millions of life overwhelmed by cancer, especially patients and families here in Oregon,” said the president of the Ohsu, Shereef Elnahal, in a press release.

Donation will help ensure that patients have access to various resources, including psychological, genetic and financial advice, symptom management, nutritional support and survival care, the university statement said.

“We could not be more enthusiastic about the transformational potential of this work for humanity,” the Knights said in the press release.

The University described it as the “largest unique donation ever made to a university, a college or an American university health center”. It exceeds $ 1.8 billion given by Michael Bloomberg to Johns Hopkins in 2018, described by this university at the time as the largest unique contribution to an American university.

Bloomberg also donated an additional $ 1 billion to Johns Hopkins last year, covering tuition fees, subsistence costs and costs for families under certain income levels.

The magnitude of the donation will allow the Knight Cancer Institute to become an autonomous entity with its own board of directors within the OHSU, the University said.

Knight, the richest man in Oregon, donated $ 500 million to the Institute of Cancer in 2013 to the State that the donation was equaled within two years.

Universities across the country are struggling with the moves of the administration of President Donald Trump to cancel or freeze research subsidies in universities.
