The 2025 Brit List of unproduced scripts revealed

The Brit List, the platform for emerging British screenwriters, has revealed its 2025 selection of the best unproduced film and television scripts.

Established in 2007, the Brit List’s mission is to “highlight outstanding British voices, with its annual list compiled from recommendations from UK production companies, talent agencies, sales companies, financiers, distributors and broadcasters. As such, “the feature films and television scripts that made this year’s list offer a barometer of industry tastes and trends,” the Brit List team highlighted. “In recent years, the Brit List has represented near parity of male and female writers, and in this edition, half of the writers come from historically underrepresented voices.

This year, a minimum of seven recommendations were needed for inclusion, with 15 screenplays from 16 writers shortlisted for 2025.

At the top of the list is Don’t even go there by Robert Cawsey, whose synopsis reads: “A family hike in Wales, intended to bring Will and his former parents closer together, goes horribly wrong when an ancient monster is unleashed, seeking revenge on the locals. »

Third place is occupied by Discretion by Dylan Brady, the actor who played Neek in the second season of Andor. The story revolves around a struggling actor who is offered a job by a high-flying producer and his movie star husband.

“In this year’s list, we have a strong collection of unique voices who take us into new and bold worlds,” said Alexandra Arlango, founder and director of Brit List. “It’s interesting to note that this year there are a high number of storylines in the sci-fi and horror genre, but these are balanced by a higher number of storylines that lean towards comedy. One striking difference we’ve seen between the storylines that have appeared on the Brit List 2025, and indeed in the majority of the 200 script recommendations we’ve had this year, is the number of them that have yet to brings in a production company This surely reflects the difficult times the film and television industries are currently facing and makes it more important than ever that we as an industry continue to take risks and have the conviction to support brilliant storytelling.

Almost one in four feature film scripts published on The Brit List were subsequently produced, including The king’s speech, PaddingtonAnd The favoriteaccording to the Brit List team.

Brit List 2025 writers, supported by Audible and the Film Distributors’ Association, will have the opportunity to participate in a six-month program designed to help them in their careers through weekly seminars featuring guest speakers from the industry, including buyers, producers and showrunners, as well as a roster of specialists in areas such as personal finance, mental health, pitching techniques and personal branding.
