RB Austin Ekeler commanders have torn Achille, said source

Washington commanders who run back Austin Ekeler have undergone a right torn by Achille and will miss the rest of the season, a source told ESPN on Saturday.

The news was scheduled after Ekeler left Washington 27-18 defeat against Green Bay in the fourth quarter on Thursday evening.

“Thank you all for love and wishes. Thank you all,” wrote Ekeler in an Instagram story on Saturday.

Ekeler has traveled a route with 5:50 to play in the game and fell to the ground without any contact. He had to be helped out of the field before being transported in the locker room. Ekeler came out of the locker room with a walking boot and on crutches, and it was clearly discouraged.

“It will be important,” said Washington coach Dan Quinn after the match. “It provides us with a lot of unique things.”

It is a crucial blow for the Washington offensive, because Ekeler was the main back – although the commanders do not have a dominant rusher – and excelled in the third tests and in the propagation packages.

Last season, Ekeler rushed to 367 yards and won 366 others. Quinn has also constantly underlined his leadership in the runner room as well as with the offense in general.

Commanders have three other runners on their list in the recruit Jacory Croskey-Merritt, the veteran Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez, third year, who was inactive the first two games but experienced a solid training camp and a pre-season.

Washington exchanged the veteran Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers of San Francisco for a choice of draft sixth round last month.

Ekeler spent his first seven seasons with the Los Angeles loaders, making their list as a free -drained free agent.
