SMC Telogorejo Hospital sees better patient satisfaction with Emram Stade 6

The Telogorejo Hospital of the Semarang Medical Center (SMC) in the center of Java, in Indonesia, was validated for stadium 6 of the HIMSS Model for adopting electronic medical records.
The eight -stage model assesses the maturity of an organization in its DME capacities.
A trip that started with an application
The 285 -bed private hospital began its digital transformation in 2017 with the launch of its mobile application, MYSMC. The application gives patients access to hospital services and health -related information and improves communication between hospital and patients.
Two years later in 2019, the hospital introduced its DME system, which combined patient data, including medical records, laboratory results, radiology reports and updated treatment history. The system also incorporated electronic prescription with allergies, the maximum dose and drug interactions.
The following year, 2020, Dr. Alice SUTEDJO LISA, CEO of SMC Telogorejo, said that the world pandemic “was forced [the hospital] To think about how to use the system to serve customers without being limited by space and time. “SMC already saw nearly 480,000 external patients and 69,000 patients hospitalized each year. To meet the growing demand for care, the hospital has introduced teleconsultation and a 24/7 multi-channeal contact center, with a virtual chatbot which was useful for elderly patients who are less possible.
Online reservations, payments and digital queues were also added to the MyMC application. “This allowed us to rationalize the patient planning process, reduce waiting times and minimize the need for physical waiting areas in the hospital,” said Dr. Lisa.
A year later, in 2021, the hospital began to integrate AI and megadata for commercial analysis, while connecting IoT medical devices with its own to develop a clinical decision -making aid system.
“IoT has enabled us to improve the DME system in the next step,” said Dr. Lisa. For example, it has enabled real -time entry of the data of vital signs, supporting the processes in closed loop for the administration of drugs, blood transfusions, laboratory tests and breastfeeding.
In 2023, the hospital began to link the database of its MyMC application to the national health database of the Indonesian government, following state regulations. He also subscribed to support for clinical decision and drug reference resources, Uptodate and Lexicomp.
After a meeting with Himss the same year, the hospital worked on the implementation of EMRAM standards from stage 5.
Wake up
SMC Telogorejo noted that HIMSS standards aligned themselves with its digital transformation mission. “Standards pay great attention to patient safety and have a great experience in clinical information needs. [They] We helped use EMR data and condense it in a clinical decision support system to make useful decisions about medication and therapy, “shared COO Glenda Angeli.
“Other IT companies sometimes produce excellent software, but they do not always integrate the safety characteristics of patients,” she noted.
When preparing for its EMRAM validation, SMC Telogorejo had to examine and improve various processes. The hospital has established a more complete notification function in the MyMC application and incorporated more structured data into its DME systems. Data processing for clinical decision -making appearance has also been improved, as well as adding data types such as regime control notes and progressing reports for hospital physiotherapy.
Collaboration with IT suppliers has also been essential, allowing interoperability and integration of various applications, such as Lis, Ris, PACS, ICCA, Satushat and JKN Mobile.
Engage the workforce
In his journey, SMC Telogorejo mainly faced change management challenges and limited technological know-how among staff, who required “fairly high investments” to be resolved, according to the hospital.
“However, with the support of all stakeholders – the owner and management to the whole team – everything can be overcome, and our entire team was in great mood in improving quality of service,” said B. Roberto Tampubolon, corporate computer agent at SMC Telogorejo.
“In change management, we involved clinicians and listened to their contribution to the use of digital technology and understood how we can facilitate their work and convince them that digital tools are not a burden,” added Angeli. “We have also provided an education on the intention and goal of EMRAM, mainly to support them in the realization of patient safety and the creation of a better system of assistance in clinical decision.”
“We have won a lot of ideas [from the HIMSS EMRAM]Including the construction of a digital technology system not only as an administrative need, but also how to develop it in favor of patients and better medical quality. “”

More than digitization
SMC Telogorejo now plans to undergo the evaluation of the HIMSS digital health indicator. It also prepares its system to allow remote monitoring of patients as added value to further improve the patient experience.
“After EMRAM validation, our digital transformation becomes more detailed: each information element that we process becomes more optimal and precise with more structured data.”

“Emram 6 has improved our patient experience – our Google review at 4.9 – and our clinical satisfaction; all our quality indicators are also improving,” added Angeli.
“Digitization is much more than simply digital; it is how we use digital technology to put our full effort and our heart in patient safety and customer satisfaction.”
