Shea Lacey ‘tears up’ at Man Utd training and impresses Ruben Amorim
Shea Lacey “torn up” Manchester United training, leaving Ruben Amorim impressed, following a behind-the-scenes change from the manager.
Amorim has mixed youth and experience into his starting XI so far this season, with Amad Diallo and Leny Yoro emerging as regular starters, alongside Casemiro, and the Brazilian midfield has enjoyed a resurgence.
At the moment, the manager appears to have found the right balance, as United have won three Premier League games, and their summer signings have been particularly impressive, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring a brace against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.
With Matheus Cunha also now out of the picture, it may be difficult for other strikers to force their way into the race initially, but one youngster has started to impress during first-team training…
Lacey impresses Amorim at Man Utd training
As reported by GiveMeSport, Amorim have made a change behind the scenes by introducing more and more young players to first-team training, with the manager keen to re-establish the link between the academy and the senior team.
The 40-year-old wants youngsters to start fighting for places in the first team, and Lacey, an 18-year-old winger, has impressed staff and teammates, with a source saying: “He tore it up – fearless, creative and always looking to make things happen. He really grabbed the attention.”
Amorim has personally noticed the starlet, and there is a feeling he could be introduced into the matchday squad before the end of the campaign if he maintains his current level.
Bringing in young players is in United’s DNA, with the ‘class of 92s’ having played a major role in Man United’s domination of English football during the era of Sir Alex Ferguson.
As such, it’s always good to see youngsters progressing through the ranks, and the Liverpool-born winger is held in high regard by scout Jacek Kulig, who praised the Englishman following his debut for the Three Lions U17 side.
Not only has Lacey impressed in first-team training, but he has also made a good start in Premier League 2 this season, collecting two goals and an assist in his first four games.
With Mbeumo and Cunha impressing, the England U20 international may struggle to break into the Premier League starting XI, but it would be good to see him qualify for the FA Cup later this season.
