Rossoneri place second in Serie A while hosts remain undefeated

AC Milan moved ahead of Roma into second place in Serie A after playing to a 1-1 draw with Atalanta in Bergamo on Tuesday.
Milan had the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Napoli, winners earlier in the day, to one point with victory. However, they were held by a disciplined Atalanta side who are yet to suffer a league defeat this season.
Midfielder Samuele Ricci gave the hosts the perfect lead when his fierce strike from the edge of the box beat Atlanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with less than five minutes remaining.
The response from the hosts was positive and they looked better despite being behind.
They wasted a glorious chance midway through the half when Honest Ahanor blasted over from nine yards, but were quickly level when, in the 35th minute, Ademola Lookman opened her account for the season with a fierce finish from a tight angle.
After the break, Milan looked to step things up and missed a host of chances as time ticked past the hour mark.
However, with just minutes remaining in the match, Atalanta hit back and Davide Zappacosta was denied the winning goal only by a superb one-handed save from Mike Maignan.
This proved right down to the last real action in a hotly contested affair. Roma have a game in hand but, for now, Milan are second having lost just one top-flight game this season.
For undefeated Atalanta, they move up to sixth place.
