“Raw” spurs in danger of becoming the next bergwijn

Tottenham Hotspur splashed costs of 30 million pounds sterling to sign Winger Mathys like Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window after his loan spell in northern London ended.
The International France U21 spent the second half of last season on loan to the Angel Postcoglou team, scoring three goals and providing aid in all competitions.
The Spurs and former President Daniel Levy have chosen to make this permanent loan contract for 30 million pounds sterling, despite the change of head coach, to give him a chance to impress under Thomas Frank.
Unfortunately, the former manager of Brentford chose to leave the 20 -year -old winger outside his team for the league phase of the Champions League, who does not bode well for young talents.
This has scored two goals for France’s U21s during the international break earlier this month, which shows that it always has the potential to succeed in Spurs, but it must show it in national matches this season.
The French striker hopes that he will not join the list of expensive wingers who failed to succeed in northern London.
Ranking the signatures of Tottenham’s most expensive wings
Such, who can play as a left or as a center-forward, ranks among the five main signatures of the most expensive winger in the history of the club if the transfer costs are taken into account.

As you can see in the table above, the summer signature Mohammed Kudus is at the top of the list, while the legend of the Heung-min club is also present.
If he is in a hurry to classify these five signatures, his son should be at the top of the list. He scored 173 goals and provided 101 assists in 451 games, per transfer, as well as the captain of a Europa league trophy.
Brennan Johnson, on the other hand, must be classified in second place at that time, simply because he scored the winning goal in a European final for the Spurs against Manchester United at the end of last season.
Regardless of what the international Wales has done before that or what he will do, this only moment made his signature and the costs paid to him.
It is too early to judge Kudus, who only arrived this summer, while Lamela should be third on this list. The Argentinian striker had a longevity on his side, while he accumulated 37 goals and 46 assists in 257 outings for Spurs, per transfer.
This leaves Steven Bergwijn, who joined the PSV in 2020, at the bottom of the pile. He only lasted two and a half years at the club, and the attacker only scored eight competitive goals at that time.
The Netherlands International scored eight goals and provided ten assists in 83 appearances for Tottenham, by Transfermarkt, which shows that it was not as effective or punchy as Johnson, Son or Lamela.
Bergwijn was an expensive flop on the wing, of which such as seeking to avoid being a rehearsal, and there is a winger at the club who risks being the next version of the Dutch striker.
Tottenham plunged to sign the French winger Wilson Odobert de Burnley for costs of 25 million pounds sterling in the summer of 2024, and he has not yet proven his value on the ground.
Why Wilson Odobert is perhaps the next Steven Bergwijn
The young striker was signed for costs similar to Bergwijn and his field performance for the club did not do much to reject a comparison between the two.
It should be noted that Oodobert struggled with injuries to the hamstrings last season, which disturbed his progress, but his displays when they are in good shape and available offered little encouragement.
The 20-year-old winger, who is the same age as such, scored a goal and created a “ great chance ” in 21 premier league appearances for Spurs to date, via Sofascore, with his latest performance against Brighton this weekend.
Thomas Frank gave the young person the opportunity to shine on the left side, but the Frenchman finished the match with zero in three finished dribbles, zero on five duels won, and no key or blow on the target in 72 minutes, by Sofascore.
Odobert, who was described as “incredibly raw” by the U23 Antonio Mango scout, was an expensive signature for spurs, at 25 million pounds sterling, and does not correspond to one of the five most expensive signatures in the history of the club, that is why it is not too hard to expect more from the former man of Burnley.

As you can see in the table above, such as, which joined the loan in January, provided more quality at the upper end of the field than its colleague France U21 International in the Premier League last season.
These statistics suggest that Oodobert offers even less than such in the last third, both as a marker and, certainly, as a creator of a wide or central berth.
The 20 -year -old striker, of course, still has a lot of time to change things and prove to the supporters and the club that the money spent to bring him from Burnley was worth it, rather than becoming the next Bergwijn, who was an expensive flop on the wing.
However, signs are not promising right now. We can only judge what has happened so far, and Odobert has not done enough on the ground to suggest that his fortune will turn around soon.
Consequently, the French winger is the one who risks becoming the next Bergwijn, rather than such, which has shown some quality glimpses in the Last League.
