Nathan Fillion’s recruit had a short -term derived series that deserves to be watched

With seven seasons and another on the way, Alexi Hawley’s drama ABC “The Rookie” is one of the many seasoned and successful police procedures in recent years. He can also continue to increase in importance very well, considering the high -level concert of Nathan Fillion star as Guy of angry green lantern in “Superman”.

On “The Rookie”, John Nolan de Fillion is considerably better styled than his character in the DC universe – but also considerably lower in the hierarchical order of the fight against crime. In the middle of 40 years, Nolan finds his call unexpectedly as an officer in charge of the application of laws and began a new career in the LAPD, despite decades older than most other recruits of force. The rest of the show is structured around this friendly character and his surprisingly inspiring career journey, and as the long shelf life of the series proves, his audience also likes this turn on gender.

It would be downright shocking if such a successful show and (at least on paper) simple to reproduce would not receive a spin-off. Indeed, in 2022, ABC tried to take over the magic of the show with a spin-off entitled “The Rookie: FEDS”. As its name suggests, the show changes things a little, with Simone Clark of Niecy Nash -Betts replacing Nolan as the recruit of 40 years which continued its dream of applying the law – only, in its case, the mission is to become a special agent of the FBI. Although it had only one season, “The Rookie: Feds” was well appreciated by critics, and it is worth watching if you are a fan of the parent series. In fact, among all the big television programs similar to “The Rookie”, the spin-off is undoubtedly the most original. This makes “Feds” the perfect procedure (and, with only 22 episodes, perhaps the easiest procedure to manage) in Binge while you are waiting for the arrival of season 8 of “The Rookie”.

The Rookie: Feds has failed to find its wings, but it remains a big show

ABC canceled “The Rookie: Feds” after a single season in 2023, but as is so often in the turbulent world of television, there were forces at stake which are not immediately obvious for those who do not intimate the situation. The most obvious renewal window of the program coincides with the strikes of WGA and SAG-AFTRA 2023, leading to “The Rookie: FEDS” hanging on the purgatory renewal for several months. Despite the increase in notes (but less impressive than those in his parent series), things did not finally work in favor of the show, and a renewal has never come.

According to Alexi Hawley, ABC’s decision to chop the spin-off has mostly resolved. As he explained during an appearance at the Telienne of television 2024 (via the deadline):

“Many things had to do with the forces that led to strike […] The consolidation of the industry, the economic impact of the streaming wars had on different companies. I think it was not a creative decision. It was a commercial decision. I cannot challenge this. I don’t direct anything. It was a treat for us. We love this show […] That’s all I can really say. “”

Although “The Rookie: Feds” could have benefited from a longer race, at least we had a good season in the series. Although it is sad to have lost a quality show that simply seemed to find its audience, the fact that people who made “federal” proudly support the project and the praise that it has received criticisms both testify in favor of the immense observability of the show.
