Stay in the fridge and save energy with the Cameleon cam

Sponsored by:
With the AC units that are fully forcibly running and household appliances, summer can be one of the most highly energy intensity periods of the year. This is why Cam the chameleon returns in action and ready to help! Cam changes color to reflect the level of conservation of the day, which facilitates the fact of staying informed of what is necessary. You can find cam updates on our website and social media.
Our color conservation system is made up of four levels: green, yellow, orange and red. These levels are designed to provide specific conservation advice depending on the color of the day and are directly associated with the planned energy demand.
Most days will be green days, which call daily conservation actions. Yellow days will be called as temperatures increase and higher pressure on the grid occurs. The yellow days encourage more energy conservation between peak demand hours – these are times when energy consumption is highest and can be found on our website. Orange alerts and red alerts will only be issued if the Electric Liabibility Council of Texas (ERCOT), the state -scale grid manager, says that network reliability is in danger.
Here is what Cam recommends for each level:
Green days
- Adjust your thermostat to 78 degrees.
- Run the ceiling fans in occupied rooms – this can make it feel 4 to 6 degrees fresher!
- Close the shades and blinds
- Disconnect electronics when not used
- Online drying clothes when possible
Yellow
- Continue the conservation measures of the green day
- Consult cpsenergy.com/conservandsave and our social media for the moments of the day when more conservation is necessary.
- Adjust the thermostats further to minimize the use of CVC
- Avoid using large devices such as your oven, washer, dryer and dishwasher
- Load electric vehicles after 10 p.m.
Orange and red alerts
These alerts will only be issued if Ercot declares that the reliability of the network is in danger. During these alerts, it is important to limit power consumption and visit our website and social media for updates.
CPS Energy would also like to remind all of our customers to register for energy alerts and follow the CPS Energy failure card and social media for updates. Customers can also use my account management to display their energy consumption and access more energy saving advice.
With one eye on the savings and the other on reliability, cam the chameleon is there to help you beat the heat without breaking the bank. Visit our website for more advice on energy conservation, emergency preparation, learning programs and residential discounts, and more.
