Big revelation! Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli already booked for ODI World Cup 2027? | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Cricket great Sunil Gavaskar has backed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for possible inclusion in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad, hailing their remarkable performances in the recent three-match series against Australia. Rohit finished as the top scorer in the series, while Kohli bounced back with an unbeaten 74 after two ducks.Their partnership was crucial in India’s nine-wicket victory in the third ODI. Rohit smashed a brilliant 121 and Kohli remained unbeaten with 74 as the two shared a 168-run stand.
“As soon as they made themselves available for this trip, it was clear that they wanted to be there for the 2027 World Cup,” Gavaskar said. “And no matter what happens between now and then, whether they score points or not, with their ability and experience, if they are available, they will be certainties in the team. With this kind of form, you can put their names straight into the World Cup squad for South Africa 2027.”With Rohit and Kohli now focusing solely on ODIs after moving away from Tests and T20Is, speculation has naturally grown around their future.Their recent performances helped India avoid a series whitewash, securing a consolation victory in the third ODI.“I love coming here and playing here. Good memories from 2008. I don’t know if we will come back to Australia, but we enjoy our cricket, whatever accolades we get,” Rohit said after receiving the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.Rohit also reflected on the challenges of the Australian tour, adding: “We started again in Perth – that’s how I look at it.”Gavaskar reiterated that Rohit and Kohli’s decision to play in the Australia series highlighted their intention to remain in contention for the 2027 World Cup, insisting their inclusion would be automatic if they remain available.
