San Francisco 49ers vs. Houston Texans Preview

Mac Jones will try to impress again when quarterback replaces Brock Purdy as the San Francisco 49ers (5-2) play another game without a long list of injured players against the Houston Texans (2-4) on Sunday.

The 49ers are tied with the Seahawks and Rams atop the NFC West and face opponents who have won two of their last 20 meetings with teams with better records, but the Texans’ defense leads the way in the NFL in points allowed per game.

“They’re really, really good,” Jones warned. “Best defense in the league, great front, great linebackers and really solid secondary.

“They have played a lot of football together and are a really talented and well-coached group. We have a huge challenge.

“They’re very strong. They have elite linebackers and guys who have seen our type of offense a lot, so they kind of know what we do and what we don’t do. We’ll definitely have our work cut out for us.”

The 49ers beat the Atlanta Falcons 20-10 at Levi’s Stadium on Monday, a day before the Texans’ two-game winning streak ended with a 27-19 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
