2025 mlb draft: favorite points of day 1, best available on day 2

With day 1 of the MLB 2025 recovery finished, it’s time to look at which choices in the first round were the most part.
After weeks of speculation on the various directions that the Washington Nationals could go with the choice n ° 1, they surprised the industry by taking Eli Willits at the Oklahoma secondary school – and the Los Angeles Angels followed a surprising choice at No. 2 by taking the UC Santa Barbara Tyler Bremner launcher.
Although the nature of the baseball draft means that some of the choices we are not sure of day 1 will become clearer when we see how the teams broadcast their bonus allocation later in the draft, here are the first choices I liked the most and certain revealing selections with the best players still available on day 2.
Five favorite movements

Sailors and pirates get their guys
The buzz leading to the draft was that Kade Anderson was at the top of the naval dashboard and Seth Hernandez was the target of the pirates (after Willit, who was not going to get there). Seattle was the other team taking a long look at Hernandez, but the shenanigans of the first two choices (more on this subject later) mean that Seattle and Pittsburgh got their favorite arms.

S Select Arnold and Taylor
Athletics had only two choices on day 1, but received excellent value to each. Jamie Arnold was the best hope of the draft in the season and seemed ready to go somewhere between n ° 2 and n ° 8 after an unequal season. He was in a way the perspective that holds short straw, falling at the 11th choice. Devin Taylor was in the mixture with several choices in the Tour de Comp but lasted five selections in the second round.

The twins embrace the risk with rapid and young
The Twins took two influence of successful colleges like their first choices last year (Kaelen Culpepper and Kyle Debarge), took another in the second round in 2023 (Luke Keaschall), and two others in the first two laps in 2022 (Brooks Lee, Tanner Schobel) – and also took one with their first choice this year in Marek Houston.
What interested me was what Minnesota did after that, taking large swings with the increase in Riley Quick (four potential locations more but a command lower than the average) and Quentin Young (power potential of 80 fats with large questions about the contact rate).

Do phillies try to skip the lifter trade market?
Gage Wood has a chance to start in the long term, but can also go directly to superior minors – otherwise the big leagues – and potentially help the enclosure of the lifts later this season, as an addition of exchange. The next choice of phillies, Cade Obermueller, is another possible starter that could also move quickly as a left-hander, 22 years later this month with two direct elimination throws in his fast / cursor ball. The chances are good that at least one of them can offer great league value in the next 12 months if Philly wants to use them in this way.

The Red Sox Land Witherspoon, Phillips and Eyanson
The Red Soxs are interested in creating more depth of pitching and have selected a certain number of interesting weapons on day 1. Kyson Witherspoon had a lot of interest in the Top 10, but the Red Sox obtained it at n ° 15.
He will need to sharpen his execution of a notch and his short action of the arm is unique, but there is a medical advantage. Marcus Phillips has a chance to start, but could also bring another distinctive look like an arm at the end of the round with four throws more than one low slit and a quick three -digit ball. Anthony Eyanson is a different kind, with a quick fringy ball speed but an off -competition command with a cursor and a separator who maintain unbalanced strikers.

Eli Willit and N ° 1
The buzz before the draft was that there were three players at stake for the first choice and that Willits was my third -class player in the class, so the same group is what I would have taken into account – and I like Willita as a player. The bonus will be a factor in the evaluation of the success of this choice – I will assume that it starts with an eight – but I think it will be considered a solid decision, as long as Kade Anderson or Ethan Holliday will not become stars.

Tyler Bremner at n ° 2
The biggest late buzz that I heard is that Bremner was at stake at No. 3 against the Navy. I did not hear his name at all at n ° 2 at all, which made this choice the first shock of the draft.
Bremner was considered in this area (on an agreement) because he could easily be the best launcher in this class – but only if he can develop a better cursor, which is not a little SI. The angels seem to have a reflection on how to solve this problem, and how it progresses will be one of the most followed scenarios of this project.

Tigers take Yost and Oliveto
I like the two players, but it is fascinating that these two and the most rumoring preparation is linked to Detroit that they did not take (Coy James, who had a difficult summer) all lacked strong summer performance in 2024.
Jordan Yost and Michael Oliveto were the only two players in the preparation position for the first -round mixture which were not in the main national events of the summer circuit, thus creating a lot of uncertainty about how to project them.
Tigers are right to assume that this could create a rapid gain in value if Yost and Oliveto can occur at the start of their professional career, but I do not remember seeing a team double the lack of summer exhibition in the first laps.

Orioles take two sensors in the first round and two launchers in the second
It is certainly a little strange that the Orioles took two university sensors with their first two choices after having taken another (Ethan Anderson) in the second round last year. Obviously, the teams do not write for the needs of the big league – the O have already adley Rutschman – and they need at least two sensors with the four affiliates of the minor league in the middle of season, it is simply strange to see them invest in this position earlier. And after all the positions of position they drafted under Mike Elias, they fakes in two arms on day 1 with Joseph Dzierwa (a command Lefty) and JT Quinn (one of my favorite college lifters with the features to start in Pro Ball).

The guards look into the power
Guardians often write or sign players internationally, which are often undernourished, with Steven Kwan a leading example. They did a lot this year, taking Jace Laviolette with their first choice (I compare it to Cody Bellinger or Joey Gallo; he struck 0.258 this season) and Nolan Schubart (24% withdrawal, 22% suffocation rate in the area) with their fifth choice on the day 1.
