Zack Wheeler crosses eight heats in the victory of the Phillies against the Padres

A plume of fireworks ignited the night sky above the central field while Zack Wheeler was out of the mound.

The pyrotechnics of the eighth round were an overview of the fireworks show for the conclusion of the match on Monday, but they were also very suitable for the moment. The Padres Jackson Merrill Padres Voltger had just passed through a quick bullet of 96 MPH for the 10th and last withdrawal of Wheeler, capping his longest out of the season so far.

“I mean, what can you say about him?” said the phillies manager Rob Thomson. “It is just phenomenal all month.”

The eight wheeler lanches of Wheeler helped the Phillies to an opening victory of the 4-0 series against San Diego. He did not emit a single walk and dispersed six strokes. He induced 19 swings and missions, including nine on his four seams and six on his bent ball.

Wheeler had expressed some frustration last week in Houston after a series of departures that were shorter than his taste. He launched six rounds against the astros on June 25 and five against the food on June 20. Although he did not allow a deserved race in both cases, Wheeler wanted to be effective enough to go seven years.

On Monday, Wheeler easily reached this goal. And with his pitch account up to 95 after the seventh, Thomson checked it. Wheeler felt good to go out, and with a day of game leave Thursday in an additional rest before his next departure, his manager was comfortable pushing him.

“I love it,” said Wheeler. “This is what I want to do every time.”

Even if the duration of some of its departures was not up to its own standards, Wheeler was dominant in June. It has an MPM of 0.58 during the month, which only allows two points deserved in total on its five departures. Strikers are only. 180 against him, while he has a whip of 0.87.

“He is incredible to say the least,” said Brandon Marsh. “He’s our guy. He competes every time he’s on this bump. We really feel, really good when he is there.”

The Phillies offensive was just enough to back down Wheeler, the manufacture of the outings of Padres Knuckleball Matt Waldron.

“Just try to see the ball, hit the ball,” said Marsh. “I felt like each player he launched had a different movement, different speeds. It is a rarity in the game, and it was quite unique to face this evening.”

During the second round, an update from Bryson Stott marked Max Kepler from the third base. The phillies added two other points on the balls of the ball on the ground and a few head-to-head in the fourth round.

Stott walked and stole second to open the rally. Marsh sent a group to the first basic player Luis Armaez, but beat his draw in Waldron, who was slow that came out of the mound to cover first. Meanwhile, Stott came to score from the second goal, plunging around the label on the plate.

“I was just trying to break it for first,” said Marsh. “I definitely saw Waldron’s late break. So I said to myself: ‘OK, I just took a footage with him.’ And I turn around and I hear everyone screaming, and I see this big cloud of dust, and I say to myself: “Atta Boy, Stotter”, so the head of the head, that’s for sure. “”

Marsh then stole second – sneaking his arm under the label – and advanced on wild land. He marked when Trea Turner struck a helicopter at Manny Machado, too slowly for him to play a game.

“These are the kinds of things you need to do to win matches against good launcher matches and qualifying series,” said Thomson. “These little things. Play the little ball and perform, stay aggressive on the basics, take additional bases when they are there for you. So I thought we did a good job. We did it for the last two games.”

During the third round, Merrill saved the three points of paadres, jumping against the central wall of the ground to transport a fly ball and Rob Kepler with a three -point shot.

Nick Castellanos added another insurance session in the fifth with a solo home run on the left ground, well out of reach of one of the outdoor padres.

Tanner Banks has launched a ninth round without a goal. In his return to programming, Bryce Harper went 0-for-2 with a walk and was struck by land. Thomson said he felt well after the match, but the Phillies will check how he recovers on Tuesday.

“The starting pitch, the enclosure of the lifts, everyone was incredible,” said Marsh. “So good little success of success. We just have to continue the bats.”
