Your Sony TV could be next to get Android 14

Summary

  • Sony updates Bravia TVS to Android TV 14, improving performance and energy saving modes.

  • Some eligible models on Android TV 10 get a leap in upgrades to the operating system.

  • The initial deployment includes mid -range and entry -level Sony televisions, with update potential on new models later.

Android 14 is probably a name that you have not heard for a long time, but with Google officially jumping Android 15 on televisions, it will jump directly from 14 to 16 when the time comes. In the meantime, 14 always takes place on many models, and now, Android TV 14 landed on a lot of Sony TV models.

Sony began to update a selection of its TVs Bravia to Android TV 14. The deployment, identified for the first time by a User on Reddit which discovered updated support documents, seems to target specific models equipped with Realtek chipsets in its initial phase. As a reminder, Android TV 14 introduces improved modes of performance and energy saving, allowing users to choose between prioritizing treatment or efficiency. He also has new color correction options and improved text formatting to improve readability. It’s a bit of an “old” update now, with Android TV 16 supposed to take place soon, but it is better late than never. This is a huge update for some, because some of the models that are eligible for this update are on Android TV 10 – they therefore essentially jump a bunch of upgrades to the major operating system at the same time.

In fact, Android TV 10 was the very first update to support the Google TV interface. So some of these televisions were late for upgrading.

The first wave of deployment includes a wide range of mid -range and entry -level models from Sony from recent years. These include Bravia 2, X77L, X75L, X75K, X74L, X74K, X70L, X64L, W880K, W835, W830L, W830K, W825 and W820K. More recent or high -end Sony televisions owners, in particular those who have Mediatek processors or those who execute the most recent Google TV interface, are not included in this initial wave, but it is very likely that the update will also land for these models.

The update itself has seen a series of backhands on other devices. Google Chromecast with Google TV and Walmart ONN Popular ONN streaming devices experienced significant problems during their attempts to deploy earlier this year, which led to bugs and instability that forced companies to stop updates. I hope that the Android TV 16 deployment of Google is not as complicated and turbulent. But Android TV 14 is always good, especially if you have not updated your TV for years or if it is in a very old software update. Many people spend years without even thinking of updating their televisions, but they too need it from time to time, especially with regard to security updates.
