“Dexter: Resurrection” drops our anti-heroes in a “world of killers”
Michael C. Hall and David Zayas discuss how New York will change the game for these two OG characters.
Collider: Thank you for your work in the past 20 years. I am a big fan of Dexter. The new series looks fantastic. I can’t wait to see where it’s okay, and I think one of the reasons why he looks so good is that New York City adds so much to the show. Can you talk about what New York City adds as a character?
Michael C. Hall: It is a new place to dexter to disappear, to hide at the sight in a way that he has not had since he was in Miami. It is definitely a place where anything can happen and anyone can be, and therefore it is somehow open in terms of unavailable characters that it has somehow built to attract. There will be many more of these opportunities. I think Dexter is in a place where he tries to draw more concrete and angular lines internally between his human life and his life as dark passengersAnd New York seems to be an appropriate architectural place for this to happen. It is rich and gives us a lot at all levels.
David Zayas: Being myself from New York, first of all, it was wonderful to be able to work at home, which was great. That being said, it was difficult for me to know that I am in New York, my house, but Angel Batista is from Miami, so I had to find new ways to be surprised or to be amazed by the incredible part of New York that, generally, I hold for granted because I live there. It was therefore an interesting concept to try to do it in New York.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is intended to last “years” according to Michael C. Hall and Clyde Phillips
“We have the strongest franchise in the history of Showtime.”
I read that you started filming in early January this year, and I just want to know how it comes out so early?
Hall: Tell me about that. We have two and a half weeks left for filming, so we will have finished filming the entire series when it is broadcast, but from the point of view of post-production, things will always have to be published and mixed, etc., etc., etc. So, yes, it’s a tight deadline. It’s pretty nice. You don’t really have the luxury of going. It’s like: “We have to do it. We have to do it in time allocated.” And it’s a kind of beautiful pressure in a way. But yes, it is a fairly fast turnaround.
It’s amazing. I’m super happy that you return it so quickly. This is the advantage of not having a CGI show. Have you read the final script, and if you did, what do you think the fans will say after seeing the episode?
Hall: I hope it will be satisfactory. There are a lot of bullets in the air, and they all merge into a large ball in the culminating history. I hope they will be satisfied. I hope they will have the impression that they have done a thrill tour and maybe anxious to see what is going on beyond that. But, yes, I definitely read the script. It is a luxury; Although there is a quick turnaround, all the scripts were almost fully executed when we started, so we had an idea of the entire history.
Zayas: I think people will be very pleasantly surprised at the dynamics and power of the last two episodes. I’m just withdrawing, as a fan, I can’t wait to look at it.

‘Dexter: Resurrection’ cannot forget the most important aspect of the original series
“I built my life on the Harry code.”
‘Dexter: the distribution of resurrection stars may not be long for this world
“You could be someone on the days are numbered.”
I want to read a few names. You have Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter. You have this range of stars of actors who join, and I am just curious, someone came and said: “I will do the show, but I need to dexter to kill myself?”
Hall: If yes, I was not informed that they said it. I think anyone knows the show knows that it is a professional risk that if you register to be in the series, and that you are a certain type of character, You could be someone on the days are numbered. But it was really rewarding for us that we were able to attract people from this caliber to join us. It is a very cool thing that the show maintains, not only with an audience, but with a community of actors a kind of pedigree that attracts them to register.
What is interesting is the way you have gone from friends to opponents now. Can you talk about how the relationship has changed and what Batista is ready to do to catch Dexter, especially after having fled to episode 1?
Zayas: This is the question, right? What is it ready to do to seek justice? You have to remember that Batista, although defective, is also very honest and has a very legal look at things Doing things in the right way. What is it ready to do now that he has different information? And how will he present him in a city he does not know? It will be the challenge.
Clyde [Phillips] talked about the way he plans Resurrection Like a multi-season show. He thinks it could be more than a season. For both of you, what did he tell you guys? What do you know?
Hall: I have an idea of the very, very, very wide features in terms of what the future could hold. I think we never imagined that it would be one-off.
Zayas: I don’t know. I am not aware of this information.
Will New York City change the Dexter code?
“It’s attractive for him and trying to have a feeling of connection with these people.”
What is really interesting about this season is the way it is so different from the two series before, namely that you have now Dexter, which will be with other serial killers who probably do not have the same code with which it was raised. I am just curious to know if these other serial killers and be with these other people will have an impact on Dexter’s psychology in terms of working, because they work completely at a different level.
Hall: It’s attractive for him, and trying to have a feeling of connection with these people because they have something fundamentally in common with him. But I think what is revealed is that there is something that distinguishes it, and Maybe he will find himself all the more linked to a feeling of belonging to know why he is different and why the code makes him differentAnd why it is more than the code, but perhaps something that has become inherent in it in terms of its own sense of justice. But yes, I think that is what was really exciting in the jet Dexter in this world of killers. It is a chance to connect both and to distinguish yourself from these people. I think he finally discovers that he is like them, but ultimately a different animal.
David Zayas “had a good time” with Glen Powell on the set of “The Running Man”
“He is really one of the smartest guys I have ever met in this business.”
David, one of my favorite filmmakers is Edgar Wright, and I think you are The racing man. How was it to be part of this project? What can you tease your character? I really look forward to the film.
Zayas: It’s a really wonderful film. By reading, there are many truly formidable actors who make small games, cameos and to come. Yes, I got involved, and it’s really just a few scenes. Working with Edgar Wright was really, really interesting, as well as working with Glen Powell, who is really wonderful in this area. I had a good time with him. I think he is really one of the most intelligent guys I have ever met in this business, and knows how to communicate and articulate his vision to other actors. It was a wonderful experience.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, episodes 1 and 2, will be presented on Paramount + with Showtime on July 11, with later episodes that came out every week.
