The former president of Verkhovna Rada Andrei Parubiy was killed in Lviv

Andrei Parubiy was born in Chervonograd in the Lviv region.

Back in his student years, he began to engage in socio-political activities: in 1988, he became co-founder and led one of the first youth patriotic organizations in Ukraine-“Heritage”.

The members of the heritage engaged in the restoration of the tombs of soldiers of the Ukrainian army (in Russia recognized as extremist and prohibited), collected memories of always alive rebels, anti-Soviet gatherings kept in Lviv.

In 1990, he participated in the elections of local councils and, a year later, he became one of the founders of the radically nationalist social party in Ukraine, in 2004, renamed “the freedom” of the Ukrainian Association.

At the end of this year, many activists from this organization joined the events of the “Orange Revolution” in kyiv. Parubiy, at that time – the vice -president of the Lviv Regional Council – became the commander of one of the key points of these events – the “Ukrainian house”.

In January 2005, Andrei Parubiy with a group of associates left freedom.

During an extraordinary election in the 2007 Parliament, Parubiy took 80th in the list of the block “Our Ukraine – Folk Self -Defense” and was first elected to the Verkhovna Rada.

During Euromaidan in 2014, Parubiy in fact became the commander of the tent camp and the chief of the Maidan self-defense unit.

In March of the same year, he was appointed secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine. He held this position until 2016.

From 2016 to 2019, Parubiy was the president of Verkhovna Rada.

Since 2019, Parubiy has been a deputy for the Verkhovna Rada of the European Solidarity Party.
