Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 101 off 50 in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy takes Mumbai into historic chase against Haryana

Yashasvi Jaiswal was at his best as he guided Mumbai to a 236-run chase against Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
It looks like India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is trying to a prove a point; he belongs in the white-ball setup as well. First he scored a ton in third ODI vs South Africa in Vizag a few days back, and now has returned to the domestic circuit, to play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, only to slam a ton for Mumbai, vs Haryana on Sunday.
The southpaw opener blasted 101 from 50 deliveries, including 16 fours and one six, to take Mumbai to the second highest runs chase in the history of the tournament — 235 runs. In fact, the record chase of 236 was achieved in the same edition of SMAT by Jharkhand against Punjab.

| 235 | Mumbai | Haryana | Ambi | 2025 |

Nonetheless, coming back to Yashasvi Jaiswal, the youngster has been trying to put his best foot forward to make a name for himself in the ODI and T20I setup. But in the shortest format it is Shubman Gill, who has occupied the top spot for now along with Abhishek Sharma, and in the ODIs too that is the case, with Gill forming a partnership with Rohit Sharma.
But then, it just looks like it, he could be the next in line of succession. Given the consistent performances he has been churning out, the selectors could be more than happy to include him in all the formats. Coming back to the chase, Sarfaraz Khan too played an excellent knock of 64 from 25; which might just attract the team franchises, ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
For Jaiswal, he is a regular starter at the top of the order for RR, and has come up with substantial performances for them. In 67 matches he has scored 2166 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 152. That includes two tons and 15 fifties as well.
