WTA Chennai Day 1 predictions including Vekic vs Adkar

Several Indian players will be at the heart of Monday’s intrigue at the WTA 250 in Chennai, as they take center stage against more experienced opponents, promising a compelling blend of local flavor and high-stakes competition. As always, we at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule. But who will move forward?
WTA Chennai Day 1 Predictions
Mai Hontama vs. Storm Hunter
Face to face: first meeting
Mai Hontama enters this opening match on a five-game losing streak, still looking for rhythm and confidence. Storm Hunter has not played singles since Beijing and had struggled to find form before her break, although her left serve and net instincts remain threats. With both wins coming up short, it could come down to consistency, and Hontama’s better fitness could give him a slight advantage.
Prediction: Hontama in 3
Sahaja Yamalapalli vs. Priska Nugroho
Face to face: first meeting
This is one of the most balanced contests on paper. Yamalapalli thrives in front of the home fans and has shown steady progress on the ITF circuit. Nugroho’s quicker match pace since his Jinan Challenger semi-final could give him an early advantage, but Yamalapalli’s ability to absorb pressure and extend points could make the situation less straightforward than it seems. Both players will be cheered on by the crowd and Nugroho’s better form of late should see her cross the finish line.
Prediction: Nugroho in 3

Polina Yatsenko vs. Alina Charaeva
Face to face: first meeting
This all-Russian clash pits Iatsenko’s baseline game against Charaeva’s more compact defensive style. Iatsenko can look unbeatable when his timing works, while Charaeva relies on pace and movement to make mistakes. Expect plenty of long rallies, but the faster surface should favor Iatsenko’s ability to hit the court more decisively.
Prediction: Yatsenko in 2
Donna Vekic vs. Vaishnavi Adkar
Face to face: first meeting
Adkar will have home support behind her and she is capable of hitting cleanly on both wings. Still, facing Vekic is a major step forward. The Croatian’s serve and ability to dictate from the baseline gives her a clear advantage, and she’s unlikely to let up once settled. Expect moments of resistance from Adkar but Vekic should advance comfortably.
Prediction: Vekic in 2
