Women’s World Cup 2025: South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba reprimanded for breaching code of conduct against India | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: South Africa spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba was reprimanded and given a demerit point by the ICC on Saturday for breaching its Level 1 code of conduct during the Women’s World Cup match against India.South Africa beat India by three wickets, handing Harmanpreet Kaur and her team their first defeat of the tournament on Thursday.“Mlaba was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘the use of language, actions or gestures which denigrate or which could provoke an aggressive response from a batter when dismissed during an international match’,” an ICC press release said.
The incident took place in India’s 17th over, when Mlaba, after dismissing Harleen Deol, bid farewell to the batter – an action which could have provoked an aggressive response.“In addition, a demerit point has been added to Mlaba’s disciplinary record, for whom this is the first offense in a period of 24 months,” added the ICC.Mlaba admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Trudy Anderson of the ICC International Match Referees Panel, meaning a formal hearing was not necessary. The accusations were reported by on-field umpires Jacquline Williams and Kim Cotton, third umpire Candace le Borde and fourth umpire Sue Redfern.“Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points,” the ICC explained.
