Matt Rhule, Nebraska “fighting the disease of the average”

Lincoln – Matt Rhule talked about times in the way he believes that the loss of Illinois in 2024 began the previous week.

It was then that Big Red dominated northern Iowa, 34-3. Huskers were up 21-3 at halftime and manipulation affairs. Rhule said the locker room was jubilant, but it was because things were easy.

“This is what we were supposed to do … Last match,” said Rhule on Monday. “We are supposed to win as much.”

Jump next week and difficult times have settled against a quality opponent. The Nebraska has lost extension, preparing the field for a regular season of 6-6 while the Illinois rushed to a regular season of 9-3, a city of citrus and a final classification n ° 16.

Last weekend, Rhule saw the same energy of half-time against Akron. He did not like how the team acted, up 33-0 at the break.

“I left them at halftime,” said Rhule. “I lost it in the locker room. I was annoyed that we let them drive the ball just before half-time, almost making a basket. Where is the killer instinct? I want us to be a football place. The football teams, you put the teams that you are supposed to put away. You don’t let them have life.”

This speech at halftime has since been released. Rhule would speak of Akron not afraid or not respecting Nebraska enough, depending on their game towards the end of the second quarter. This message resulted in a second half of 35-0, but it also illustrates a change of mentality that Rhule has been fighting since the first day in Lincoln.

“Winning teams know how to win,” said Rhule. “Teams that do not win, bad teams do bad things. I want us to be a good team this week. And it starts with the way we act this week in practice. It started last night. I was very satisfied with our day yesterday, our attention to details, presenting, being locked up, taking responsibility for things that were good, taking responsibility for things that have improvement.”

Rhule said that players are starting to learn the reasons why things are going well or are not doing well.

“I think they recognize that some of them do things they have never done before,” said Rhule. “They never beat someone 68 nothing before. So why are you doing this? Because you have a Nebraska (Jersey)?

“Well, you had a Nebraska (Jersey) when you lost to Georgia Southern. You had a lot of people in the stadium when you lost to whom we beat tech a few years ago and it was a near game, you had the same things.

Rhule beat the drum in press conferences, and probably even more in practices, playing teams and not brands.

“You must have an advantage for you,” said Rhule. “And so if the edge comes from only, well, we play a classified team, then it is
Average disease.

“You have to find an advantage every week because there is a man aligned against you who thinks he can beat you, and therefore you have to beat him, and at the end of the game, he’s going to shake your hand and say:” I can play at your level. I’m good enough to play in the Nebraska “, or he’s going to shake your hand and make you your eyes and be like” Hey, good luck the rest in the way “.” And prepare for his season.

“This is the state of mind that we are trying to go to our guys. We are trying to pass this since the first year.”

Rhule said that just as its teams had historically carried out a process from first to year two and the third year, there are stages in the process of moving the mentality to what is necessary to succeed at this level.

“I think that now we are at this stage as we are looking for competitive greatness,” said Rhule. “The preparation leads to the confidence of the poison, which leads to a competitive greatness. And even if the situation, like, go up in the game and you are up 60 points, is this competitive greatness? Well, for some of our guys, yes, it was our chance to play.

“And you know what, Ashton Murphy tore and had a bag. He cannot control when he arrives in the game, but he can certainly control what he does when he happens
there.

“This is what we are looking for this week. If we are going there this week or if we are going there in training this week, and we think that we are a good team, and that we are starting to listen to this disease, just as I tell them, do not listen to the noise when everyone says, you can’t do that, you can’t do that. More, don’t just say the movie.

“I would like to see a good film during the training of tomorrow. And if I do not do it, then we will try to get it for Wednesday. And I hope that on Saturday, we are locked up and ready to leave. But with the guys we have, they have experienced a lot. I think they will be ready.”
