Will the Flash appear in DC Studios’ upcoming DC CRIME series led by Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen?

Last night, the rumors were finally confirmed when we learned that DC Studios was moving forward with Crime in Washington DC. The series will be presented as a true crime documentary series, with Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen as host.
The plan is for the first season to revolve around Gorilla Grodd, who was briefly featured in Creature Commandosand he is confirmed to be one of DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn’s favorite characters. Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault (American Vandal) would serve as writers, executive producers and showrunners on the series.
There’s a lot to be said for DC Studios moving forward with another series that hasn’t been announced as part of the “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters” slate in early 2023, including with Waller, Paradise lostAnd The brave and the bold isn’t going anywhere fast.
Either way, if this docuseries parody is going to tell the story of Gorilla Grodd, it will surely have to include the villain’s greatest enemy, The Flash.
The Scarlet Speedster was the first hero Grodd ever clashed with, and they have been inextricably linked ever since. Grodd is 100% a Flash villain, and revealing his old exploits without Fastest Man Alive coming into play is like telling Venom’s story without Spider-Man (and we all know how that turned out).
So, will Gunn launch The Flash for Crime in Washington DC? At the very least, we’d expect Barry Allen to be one of those interviewed for the show, given that he’s a forensic pathologist for the Central City Police Department! But at this stage, nothing is confirmed.
Last December, Gunn said that “we remain focused on development” regarding The Flash’s debut in the DCU. In August, he was asked about Peacemaker Season 1’s references to the hero (and Wonder Woman), and responded: “Yeah, are they canon? I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see. I mean, they’ll exist eventually. Whether they exist now, I don’t know.”
The return of Ezra Miller is certainly not possible for obvious reasons, but could The lightning Is TV star Grant Gustin reprising his most famous movie role? Well, he spoke with Gunn, who confirmed multiple times that he’s a fan of the actor.
“Grant is an incredibly talented guy, currently performing on Broadway, I believe, and he’s absolutely not going to waste just because he’s not currently involved in a DC project. But, of course, I would love to work with him at some point.” he already promised.
In some ways, it makes sense for the DCU to move on to Wally West. Anyway, without including The Flash in Crime in Washington DC would be a huge mistake on DC Studios’ part, and something that bodes well for the hero’s introduction might be how much Gunn loved the character’s 2023 film.
“It’s one of the best superhero movies I’ve ever seen. [Director] Andy Muschietti did an incredible job.” he said at the time. “Can I say one more thing? The Flash is truly amazing.”
Hmm. For what it’s worth, we hear that Clark Kent and Lois Lane not appear in Crime in Washington DC. As always, stay tuned for updates.
