Why World Obesity Day is important

World Obesity Day, observed on March 4, is a world call for action to remedy obesity as a serious health challenge. The mission of World Obesity Day is to increase awareness, encourage advocacy, improve policies and share experiences.
Obesity is not only an individual problem; This also has an impact on communities. For black communities in particular, where obesity rates are raised disproportionately, this day is a chance to raise awareness, break stigmas and explore real solutions.
Obesity increases the risk of other chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, but with good resources, support and access to care, change is possible.
This World Obesity Day, let’s focus on increasing consciousness, rupture of stigma and the empowerment of a healthier future for ourselves and our communities.
