Why there’s no new gear shift tonight (November 19) and when season 2, episode 7 will be released
Change gear is not airing a new episode tonight, November 16, 2025, and ABC has a good reason for that. Tim Allen’s returning sitcom may have been divisive, but it proved to be a commercial success for the network. In addition to being a success in terms of streaming viewership, it also found its audience through its next-day availability on Hulu. So far, Shifting Gears has been in its second edition for several weeks now.
As ABC attempts to expand its sitcom portfolio, Change gear Season 2 forms a significant part of the network’s 2025-2026 television schedule. Having Allen at the forefront of the series is helpful in attracting viewers, but the series also boasts a superb ensemble, further enhanced by its impressive roster of guest stars. As the series continues to tackle Matt and Riley (Kat Dennings) trying to repair their frayed relationship, Shifting Gears fans should wait a little longer to see what’s in store next.
Shifting Gears Season 2 is in the middle of a brief hiatus
ABC is not airing a new episode of Change gear season 2 on November 16 as the comedy is still in its brief hiatus. Returning from its mandatory summer break in October, the comedy has already released a total of six episodes, airing continuously since the start of its second year. That said, ABC moved up its regular primetime lineup on November 12, which continues through this week.
On November 19, the broadcaster will broadcast the 59th annual CMA Awards (via ABC New York), hosted by award-winning musician Lainey Wilson. The event will begin at 8 p.m. ET, which is Shifting Gears’ usual time slot, and will continue until 10:30 p.m. ET. ABC Local Programming reveals that next week, November 26, the comedy still won’t release a new episode, but it will do a one-hour rerun of the show.
When will Shift Return and what to expect from Season 2, Episode 7
For context, the last new episode of Shifting Gears season 2 was “Loyalty.” In it, Matt came into disagreement with the company’s usual trusted mechanic, Stitch. Elsewhere, Riley also found herself in some sort of work trouble after things fell apart when she tried to hire her son, Carter, to work at the cafe.
Due to its narrative nature, it’s difficult to predict what’s next for Matt, Riley, and the rest of the Shifting Gears cast. While season 2, episode 7 is supposed to be titled “Bachelor” (via Rotten Tomatoes), there is currently no official synopsis for the release. Chances are it’s because the show won’t return for a few weeks.
It is expected that Change gear season 2 will return with new episodes on December 13 based on its official Rotten Tomatoes page. That said, it’s best to wait for official confirmation from ABC to know for sure. For now, fans can catch up with the series as all episodes are already streaming on Hulu.
