Why Seth Rogen Turned Down Favorite Directors for The Studio Cameos

Seth Rogen had to make some tough decisions.
The star and co-creator of the Emmy Award-winning series The Workshop recently said GQ that he had to “turn down” some of his favorite directors who asked him for appearances in the second season of the series.
“I sometimes feel like I’m running a fake movie studio,” Rogen admitted. “Agents of directors are calling me offering clients to make fake films in our series, which is very strange and very meta. And I’m actually having to turn down directors that I’m a big fan of because the film, the fake film, may not be quite right for the fake package that we have in mind. So yeah, it’s gotten very strange.”

The series centered on a fictional Hollywood film studio, Continental Studios, which was struggling to survive in a world where it is increasingly difficult for art and business to live together. Rogen plays Matt Remick, a movie executive who is promoted to studio president.

“A few people came up to me at the Emmys to say they regretted it, which was very meaningful to me,” he said. “That’s all I want: for people to regret not working with me.”
In addition to all the cameos, Rogen has previously admitted that some of the characters and episodes of The Workshop were inspired by real Hollywood people or situations.
“Yes, I was yelled at three times last week,” said the Chance ” the star told Stephen Colbert earlier this year when asked how people reacted when they finally realized it was based on them. “Some of them are happy, some of them are not happy, I will say.”
