Why Rohit Sharma refuses to remove his helmet during century celebrations?

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma refused to remove his helmet, even during victory celebrations and his century celebrations, to hide his baldness. He even borrowed the cap from his technical staff before opening the helmet and immediately covering his bare head.

India’s veteran ODI batter Rohit Sharma scored a stunning century in the final ODI of India’s tour of Australia, which marked the end of a glorious career against the mighty Australians on their home soil. Rohit became the second Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar to score over 2,500 runs against the Australians.

Rohit was also awarded the Player of the Match award for the match. Both veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were named men of the match in four of the previous five matches India won in the 50 over format.

Rohit Sharma covers ‘baldness’ with helmet during victory celebrations

While the Indian opener looked impeccable in Sydney and hit a match-winning knock of 121* runs off 125 balls, he redefined records and remained unbeaten throughout the run chase. After Kohli finished the chase with a boundary, the Indian players lined up for handshakes alongside the Australians.

Rohit Sharma can be seen with his helmet still on during this entire row of handshakes. Although some of his teammates urged him to take it off, he borrowed a cap from one of the support staff to cover his head before removing the helmet.

Rohit hid his baldness, a very common problem among Indian men as they age. This led to a wave of hilarious comments on social media.

Rohit Sharma breaks a SENA record by any visiting batter

During his flawless century at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Rohit Sharma smashed three sixes in his innings, as the Indian six-hitting serial batter managed to break a massive record in SENA countries previously held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle.

Rohit brought up his 60th half-century by hitting Adam Zampa for a six over the covers with a very fine inside shot. This marked Rohit’s 93rd six on SENA soil, and with this, he surpassed Chris Gayle’s previous record of the most sixes by a visiting batter in SENA countries in the 50-over format.

He is also just three sixes away from tying former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi in the list of most hit sixes in the history of ODI cricket. Afridi tops the list with 351 sixes, while Rohit has 348, having played over 120 fewer matches than the former all-rounder.

Rohit Sharma joined the elite list of Indian cricketers

Along with the several batting milestones for Rohit, he also earned a new place in the list of cricketers with most catches in one-day internationals for India. Rohit made an abrupt decision to dismiss Mitchell Owen and later contributed to the dismissal of Nathan Ellis.

He joined the elite list of Indian cricketers as Virat Kohli, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Suresh Raina have taken 100 catches in ODIs. Rohit now also gets the highest average among any cricketer in the history of the format against Australia.
