“Fubar” was, in the estimate of / Chris Evangelista of the film, a “True Lies” watered down. But it is the leading role of first role of Arnold Schwarzenegger in a scripted show, and his big starting in streaming, it seemed that the project could have legs. In addition, when the first season made its debut on May 25, 2023, it was three decades that the action comedy of $ 100 million from James Cameron bowed in theaters. Maybe a new generation was ready to adopt a more aseptified streaming version of a film they had never seen? Now that I write this, however, I am starting to have an idea of the reason why “fubar” has not spent its second season.
The series of action comedies came to the designer Nick Santora, who recently made a name for supervising another series of action streaming in the form of Prime Video “Reacher”, which is busy breaking records and dominating the Nielsen charts. “Fubar”, however, did not have the same success as the series led by Alan Ritchson of Prime Video (although Schwarzenegger and Ritchson should be co-star in a next Christmas comedy with a bizarre premise). The Arnie show did not quite resonate with viewers in the same way as “Reacher”, but it has at least obtained a second -season renewal one month only after the inaugural season struck Netflix. However, it would be the last time that the show would receive a green light. Season 2 made its debut in June 2025 and two months later, Netflix fired. So what’s wrong?
Fubar Season 2 could not take over the public of season 1
“Fubar” played Arnold Schwarzenegger as Luke Brunner, a CIA agent on the retirement line and the family who is amazed to discover that her daughter, Emma (Monica Barbaro, who played Joan Baez in “A full unknown” and won an Oscar appointment for his work), also works for the same agency. After learning the truth about the secret lives of the other, they also realize that they do not really know each other. But when they are responsible for working together on a dangerous mission, there are a lot of father-daughter ties to have alongside the failure of the ass.
Season 2 saw the Father-Fille team face Greta Nsoo de Carrie-Anne Moss, a German spy who was also the ex of Luke. Alas, the inclusion of the great Moss, who has his own good action fans, was not sufficient to ensure the series another renewal. On August 1, 2025, Deadline reported that Netflix had chosen not to renew “Fubar” for a third season, after what the point of sale described as a “surprisingly sweet return for the series” with its second season.
The fact that fans had to wait more than two years between season 1 and 2 certainly did not help “fubar”. Season 2 would have barely reached the top 10 of the English language series in its first days on the platform, last in the ranking for the period from Thursday to Sunday and by accumulating 2.2 million views. Compare this to around 11 million views collected by the weekend of season 1 and you can see how serious the deposit was. As Deadline points out, season 2 culminated at number seven on the charts during its first full week, with an average of 3.3 million views, before spending number 10 of its third week with 1.8 million views. After this dull performance, Netflix apparently decided not to give the series another chance, and merciless kept it all a few weeks after also canceling “the residence” in the same ruthless way.
Fubar did not have much after season 2
Although “Fubar” has clearly seen a marked drop in the hearing, there was always that the two -year gap between the seasons to be reported, and if Netflix had produced another season faster, the show could have had the opportunity to rebuild its audience. As the deadline noted in its report, the cancellation of “Fubar” was a fairly rare event for 2025 since Netflix had renewed nearly 20 other shows scripted since the start of the year.
That said, it is not as if “fubar” had something else that could have saved it. The show has an average score of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it probably did not play in the stream’s decision to cancel the series. After all, it was the company that gave us the unreasonably dear failure which was the worst film by the Russo Brothers, “The Electric State” as well as “Lift” by Kevin Hart, who inexplicably exceeded the film records the same year “Fubar”. However, an RT score of 50% for season 1 and a score of 48% for season 2 do not convince all the executives of Netflix to reconsider “Fubar” in the process of puzzle against the drop in the audience.
At the time of writing the time of the editorial staff, there was no reaction from the distribution or the crew. But the showrunner Nick Santora works hard on season 4 of “Reacher” and the next spin-off “Neagley”, while Arnie is probably at the gymnasium.
