Jeff’s King of the Court Pick for Tuesday, January 6: Luka Doncic
Tuesday’s six-game slate doesn’t have a ton of PRA machinery (points, rebounds and assists), leaving a certain MVP candidate as the obvious choice, at least on paper.
Victor Wembanyama would have been a threat to win the crown if he was fully healthy. Unfortunately, a recent knee hyperextension will ensure that Wemby, if available, remains on a strict minutes restriction against the Grizzlies. Donovan Mitchell has been putting up points lately, but the lack of true R+A potential makes me wary of the veteran scoring machine. Zion Williamson has the potential to drop 40 points, which could put him in contention, but inconsistent usage is concerning.
That leaves us with Luka Doncic. In case you haven’t checked on him in a while, the Los Angeles superstar is still posting video game numbers. Doncic is averaging 33.7 points, 8.7 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game. He accumulated 53 PRA in his last outing against the Grizzlies. Even on a less busy day, Doncic’s usage rate rarely drops below 34%. Luka has already won the King of the Court title twice this season, and this week I expect him to add to that total.
