They managed to obtain an agreement with the London Club on the day of the deadline, but Crystal Palace disconnected the agreement after failing to sign a replacement. Now, Football Insider has revealed that Crystal Palace was open for the sale of the player at the start of the summer, but Liverpool delays the move and finally ended up costing them.
Crystal Palace had a number of targets aligned to replace the 25 -year -old defender, but they could not sign them due to the lack of finance. If Liverpool had moved to Guehi earlier in the window, Crystal Palace could have replaced it properly.
Why has Marc Guehi Move failed?
Callum O’Connell said: “From what I am told on the side of the palace, they were ready to let him go in June or July.
“If Liverpool had come with an offer of 40 million pounds sterling, they had a number of targets they watched.
“The problem was that, when they arrived on the deadline, many of these targets were not available.
“Ousmane Diomande de Sporting CP was a key name for them, but it was not a decision they could make until Guehi was sold to collect funds.
“The palace was not willing to spend the money before having it and risking their financial stability.
“If Liverpool had come earlier, they would have obtained the agreement.
“Instead, they delayed it until the end of the window, where it became impossible for Palace to find its replacement and sanction its sale.”
Can Liverpool sign Guehi?
The player finished his doctor with Liverpool on the deadline, but the move was not passed. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decides to come back for him when the transfer window is opened in January.
He will be a free agent at the end of the season, and Crystal Palace would prefer to sell it for a reasonable amount of money in January instead of losing it for free. It remains to be seen how the situation is developing. Several other clubs wish Guehi.
