Celebrities like Bella Hadid, Justin Bieber and Miranda Hart have spoken out about their years-long struggles with the effects of Lyme disease, but despite increasing rates and greater awareness, the disease remains poorly understood. To better understand the long-term impact of the disease on people, Madeleine Finlay heard from the Guardian’s Patrick Barkham about his daughter Milly’s experience, as well as Professor John Aucott, director of the Johns Hopkins Lyme Disease Research Center and associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University.
