Why GTA 6’s second delay decision may have already been made

Grand Theft Auto VI fans are concerned that the recent announcement regarding a brand new title from Rockstar Games, potentially releasing sometime in 2026, could have a knock-on effect on GTA VI own release date.

Fans just can’t help themselves when it comes to posting a doom message over a potential second. GTA6 delay, to the point where it almost seems like they’re trying to make one exist.

Most of the time, these concerns are completely unfounded and based on very little information. However, recent news of another title published by Rockstar Games has a bit more basis, as it seems very unlikely that the publisher would be willing to release two massive titles so close together.

As revealed during their recently released Q3 2025 investor call (thanks Rockstar Intel for the source), Remedy Entertainment’s Max Payne Remake 1 and 2 is apparently still on track for its planned 2026 release date.

That means, based on Remedy Entertainment’s official production timelines, we could end up getting our hands on it as early as October 2026.

In case you don’t understand how this is relevant to Grand Theft Auto VI release, Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games have confirmed that Rockstar Games is releasing the Max Payne Remake 1 and 2.

Now if we assume that GTA VI is still on track for May 2026, this could potentially mean that Max Payne Remake 1 and 2 will be released less than five months after its release.

So, is Rockstar Games really ready to cannibalize its own market by releasing two huge titles so close together? Or could Max Payne 1 and 2 remake expected release date confirms we may not get GTA VI until 2027?

On the r/GTA6 subreddit, in a thread about the news, fan opinions seem decidedly mixed.

“Even though I am 95% convinced that the May 26 release date will be respected, the Max Payne remakes do not rule out a delay,” commented user Divers_Carob_5752.

“This seems highly unlikely, as Rockstar almost never delays a full official release date, but anything can happen. While I’m confident it won’t be delayed again, nothing is final until GTA 6 goes gold.”

“I have high hopes that it won’t be long before Rockstar confirms an official release date, but anything is still possible I guess. Max Payne it wouldn’t influence this at all, it would also be delayed,” user uhhhgreeno replied.

I guess we’ll have to wait until Rockstar Games releases that third trailer to confirm either way.

Which I’m sure will happen any day now…probably.
