Why does British gas continue to play stupid on my defective smart meter? | Energy bills

I am one of the millions whose intelligent meters have become “stupid” and have ceased to relay readings to the supplier.

British Gas canceled the first appointment to repair it and failed to introduce himself for the second. They have since fallen silent. It’s been five months now and I fear that, at one point, I will get an estimated bill that I will not be able to contest.

Wtw, Sunderland

It is believed that the 4M smart meters work badly, although consumer activist Martin Lewis estimates that twice as many households are affected and are likely to have inaccurate bills.

British gas managed to blur an appointment within two weeks of my intervention. To show his contrition, he will not charge you for the six months when the counter did not work.

Since then, the regulator of Great Britain, ofgem, has announced new rules governing the installation and repair of smart meters. The resolutions must be agreed within five working days of a reported problem and that the compensation is due if the repairs are not completed within 90 days.
