THE Lost the series finale was a relief in 2010. After two untouchable seasons, Lost began to feel the weight of its many, many mysteries, and the lack of direction began to become evident. Lost still managed to deliver the goods during its less spectacular years. Season 3’s ending felt epic, Season 4’s “The Constant” remains one of the greatest TV episodes of all time, and Season 6 thrived on the ending to the game that was finally mapped out. However, not even Lost‘s most dedicated fans might suggest that ending with season 6 was premature.
There have been many rumors about a potential Lost rebirth or restart over the years. Nothing concrete ever came to fruition, but given the studios’ increasing reliance on familiar IPs and Lostthe defining legacy of the era, it would be a miracle if another visit to the island never took place. LostThe ending didn’t overtly establish future stories, but one small detail could serve as a starting point for a sequel featuring new survivors and a new threat to the island.
Hurley’s Death Sets Up Potentially Lost Sequel Series
everyone is dead Lostthe final. Not in the “they were dead from the start“It makes sense, thankfully, but the flash-sideways timeline serves as a meeting place for the survivors to reunite one last time before moving on to the afterlife. It doesn’t matter whether they die during the series, like Boone, or many years later, like Kate and Sawyer – all roads lead back to the church in LostIt’s final.
Oddly enough, Hurley is there too. After becoming the island’s protector, Hurley supposedly gained the power to be ageless, so he likely died centuries, if not millennia, after everyone else at the Great Ocean Meeting. But if Hurley cannot perish of natural causes due to the protector’s powers, this suggests he was murdered some time later LostIt’s final.
We know very little about Hurley’s reign as protector of the island. “The End” confirms that he has a close and successful relationship with his second-in-command, Ben Linus, and “The New Man in Charge” shows Hurley recruiting Walt to help the island’s dead souls enter the afterlife. These details aside, Hurley’s time on the island is a blank period in Lostthe chronology.
And yet, the fact that Hurley dies implies that another “Lost“comes after Lost.
Another threat looms over the island, whether from scientists, explorers, or wealthy entrepreneurs seeking to harness the strange energy of the island’s heart. Hurley valiantly tries to protect him, just like Jacob did before him, but he ends up dying in the process. Perhaps Hurley had planned such an occasion and summoned a new group of candidates to the island in hopes of finding a replacement, in exactly the same way that Hurley himself had been hired.
The story of Lost‘s Island – which we see a lot throughout the series – reveals two constants. First, unscrupulous individuals always come to the island for one reason or another. Second, all the protectors on the island end up getting stabbed. Unless both sequences are broken, Lost history suggests that Hurley was murdered by an evil visitor to the island.
The only detail we can draw LostThe finale is that Ben doesn’t betray Hurley. Their final conversation exudes deep respect and friendship, meaning Ben stays by Hurley’s side through trouble. Nonetheless, their conversation makes no reference to the fate of the island or the enemies they might have faced. The two friends are content to congratulate themselves on having fulfilled their respective roles as best as they could. That in itself doesn’t mean much – Jacob did his best too, and look how it ended.
There is a particularly dark possibility behind Hurley’s presence at the church in Lostthe final. If Hurley is killed because he is unable to protect the island and there is no replacement waiting in the wings, the entire world will disappear after Hurley dies. Potentially, Hurley enters the church knowing exactly when and how the extinction of humanity occurs, which is certainly a strange thought.
The most banal explanation behind Hurley’s death in Lost
There is no doubt that Hurley’s death could serve as a starting point for a Lost if such a thing ever materialized. Indeed, the death of the island’s protector would be a fascinating way to kick off the pilot episode and add a different twist to the revival.
Even if the Lost The mark remains intact, however, it is still possible to explain Hurley’s presence at the church without creating further mysteries. When Hurley hires Walt for a “job“In “The New Man in Charge”, Michael’s son is potentially designated to replace Hurley as the island’s protector.
After all, Walt’s connection to the island was stronger than that of any of the other passengers on Oceanic 815. Perhaps Hurley recognizes this and uses his mandate as protector to educate and groom Walt as his successor. more suitable for work. When the time comes and Walt is ready to step in, Hurley would resign, becoming mortal again (Alpert proves this is possible) and living the rest of his life as a normal person while Walt takes over the island.
Tellingly, Walt does not appear in the final scene at the ending church. Lost» finale, which could serve as proof that after being anointed by Hurley, he remains the protector of the island for the rest of time.
