Why a Batman Beyond Revival series will not occur, according to the star Will Friedle

For a certain generation of DC fans, there is nothing like “Batman Beyond”. The series takes place in a future version of Gotham City where the young Terry McGinnis took Batman’s coat by wearing a high -tech costume and is framed by a Bruce Wayne aging. Taking up in the same chronology as “Batman: The Animated Series”, the show was relatively short -lived, lasting three seasons between 1999 and 2001. However, it is no less liked, all the more now since nostalgia has caught up. Unfortunately, those who hold for a revival would do well to temper expectations.
Will Friedle, who expressed Terry McGinnis in the original series, recently speaks to the animate! Columbus agreement 2025 (by comicbook.com). During the event, he was asked about a possible renewal “Batman beyond”. A few years ago, Friedle said he wanted to see such a thing happening. Unfortunately, some crucial things have changed – namely the death of Kevin Conroy, Batman’s voice. Here is what Friedle had to say about this:
“If you asked me this question three years ago, the answer would be:” Oh my God, yes. Put me in front of the microphone right now. “Now that Kevin has left, I don’t know if I could start again.
Conroy, who became Batman’s final voice, died in 2022. The actor has lent his voice to the character many times over the years, starting with “Batman: The Animated Series”. For many fans, he remains the “One True Batman”, and many actors who have worked with him over the years feel the same thing. As such, it is difficult for Friedle to imagine to pick up where he had stopped without Conroy. It is difficult not to respect this.
Batman Beyond could make a comeback – but with a new casting
If Conroy was still with us, who knows? What we know with certainty is that DC Studios is launching a new vision for the DC universe, starting seriously with “Superman” by James Gunn this summer. But the restart of the DCU also includes animated programs, live series and even video games. And although there is currently no plan for a “Batman Beyond” project, such a thing seems, in one way or another, inevitable. This would simply mean more a restart or continue the concept in a new medium rather than a revival of the original series.
Warner Bros. For years, for years, interested in continuing a film “Batman Beyond”, with Clint Eastwood in the eyes of Bruce Wayne for an abandoned version of years ago. But it’s really just the tip of the iceberg. In recent years, the studio has played with several other versions of Terry McGinnis and Bruce Wayne teaming up on the big screen.
An animated film “Batman Beyond”, at the “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Ver”, was in development at some point. He was then rebuilt. The big one arrived in 2023 when “The Flash” disappointed at the box office. If this film had been a success, WB sought to make a film “Batman Beyond” with Michael Keaton.
The biggest point is that Warner Bros. And DC seem very interested in using this concept as a springboard for something bigger. There were even rumors that a video game based on the animated series “Batman Beyond” was in development at Rocksteady, although this was never confirmed. In any case, it seems that it is a property in the largest DC comic strip canon which has a lot of juice to tighten. Do not expect Friedle to be Front-And-Center, in the light of these recent comments.
