Teenager Jeevan Badwal scored his first MLS goal while the host Vancouver Whitecaps extended his undefeated sequence to a franchise record 11 games with a bizarre 3-0 victory against the Sounders of Seattle on Sunday evening.
Daniel Rios and Damir Kreilach also scored for the Whitecaps Whitecaps of the MLS (10-1-5, 35 points), which are 6-0-5 during their race.
While the Whitecaps entered the confrontation of the Cascadia Cup in the short term, with nine players for the international service and several others, including Badwal, questionable after a gastrointestinal defeat swept the team after a trip to Mexico for the final of the Champions Cup last weekend, the Sounders of the weekend (7-6-5, 26 points) end Nine Players on the ground.
The defenders of Sounders Nouhou Tolo and Johnathan Bell received red boxes three minutes apart at the start of the second half by referee Ricardo Fierro for having denied score opportunities.
Nouhou practically approached Mathias Laborda just outside the upper right corner of the 18 yards in the 52nd minute, the Sounders offering no complaints. The same goes for the second call, while Bell inadvertently cut the heel of Emmanuel Sabbi about 20 meters from the net.
The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the 40th minute. Edier Ocampo sent a pass to Jean Claude Ngando on the left side of the penalty area. Ngando cut a pass back to the middle of the field, where Badwal amazed the Sounders with a single animated in the net. Badwal, 19, only made his second career start.
Rios helped to win the victory with a strike of 20 yards in the upper left corner of the net in the 70th minute.
Kreilach, who came for Badwal in the middle of the second half, scored the penalty in the 88th minute after Sabbi was launched by Joao Paulo de Seattle.
The Sounders had some quality score chances in the first half, with these two attempts that were missing right from the right post. The first came on a volley by Alex Roldan in the second minute just outside the top of the 6 yards box. The second came on a 15 yards by Pedro de la Vega on the left side of the penalty area in the 31st minute.
