Whispers In The Well Starter Decks and Illumineer’s Trove Review

Most recent Disney Lorcan together, Whispers in the wellarrives on November 7, 2025, and major retailers will receive the products on November 14. As usual, the new set launches with two new Starter Decks and an Illumineer’s Trove, as well as other products like playmats. Whispering in the well also introduces the Boost ability.

The two new Starter Decks for Disney Lorcana: Whispers in the Well are Amber/Emerald and Sapphire/Steel. Cards feature iconic Disney characters like Simba from The Lion KingMegara of HerculesJudy Hopps Zootopiaand Robin Hood. Scrooge McDuck, Daisy and other mascot characters return along with fan favorites like Genie from Aladdin And ZootopiaIt’s Nick Wilde.

Everything you’ll need to get started

Both Starter Decks include a 60-card ready-to-play deck and a booster pack with 12 random cards inside. If you are new to Disney Lorcangrabbing the Amber/Emerald or Sapphire/Steel deck is a great way to dive into the TCG. Each will teach you different strategies, and the decks can be useful for playing against each other if you have someone to play against.

The following items are found in the boxes of the Whispers in the well Starter Decks:

1 booster containing 12 random cards
1 paper play mat
1 paper tracking token
1 game rule booklet
11 paper damage counters
1 solo game of 60 cards, including 2 brilliant cards

That’s all you need to start playing Disney Lorcan. While the Illumineer’s Trove is definitely aimed more at collectors, the Starter Decks for Disney Lorcan It’s more about learning how the TCG works – and how new glows, abilities, and other cards work now that they’re added to the meta.

The Amber/Emerald Starter Deck for Whispers in the well Includes foil cards of “Simba, King in the Making” and “Megara, Secret Keeper.” Both cards come with the new Boost mechanic, meaning you’ll need to learn something new from the start. Both glows are also “whispers”, the final classification of characters summoned from a torn or damaged story book page.

“Paranormal power” is the theme of this deck, so expect to see spirits. As a fan of The black cauldronI was also delighted to see characters like Princess Eilonwy appear here. As a competitive deck, Amber/Emerald is pretty balanced. Many cards are used to introduce you to Boost and Whispers.

Between the Starter Decks, Amber/Emerald is the more aggressive of the two. I found “Simba, King in the Making” particularly awesome in this deck given its strong stats. Although I found it on par with Whispers in the well‘s Sapphire/Steel deck can be a bit unbalanced compared to older decks that lack the latest features. Lorca abilities and card types.

The Sapphire/Steel Starter Deck for Whispers in the well includes films for “Judy Hopps, Uncovering Clues” and “Robin Hood, Ephemeral Archer.” Neither card alone seems as useful as “Simba, King in the Making”, but Robin Hood’s expert shooting can quickly damage two opponents’ cards, giving him an advantage.

The game itself is built around Detectives, which is where the Judy Hopps card comes in. Her “Deep Investigation” allows you to look at the first 3 cards and draw a Detective card into your hand. Almost all of the cards in this set revolve around using detectives to stack knowledge and attack your opponent, which can be very useful.

Whispers in the wellThe Sapphire/Steel deck requires a little more understanding of the game to really succeed, which can make it more difficult to learn for beginners. I found it to be a bit slow, eventually allowing me to gather lore quickly, but only after I managed to play the right combination of cards. Luck certainly helped in this area as well.

What’s included and how it compares to past treasures

If you are more of a collector, there is also an Illuminator’s Treasure for Whispers in the well. Starter Decks will allow you to get started with the TCG or get used to the new mechanics, but the Illumineer’s Trove is more about boosters and acquiring premium items that help you organize your collection. Content includes:

1 knowledge meter
6 card dividers
6 damage counter dice
8 booster packs (each with 12 random cards inside)
1 storage box

As with previous Illumineer’s Troves, the storage box is a great way to organize your cards and the dividers can allow you to easily divide them by ink type. Lore meter dice are also very useful if you play a lot and are looking to invest. This time, I didn’t receive any Enchanted cards from the boosters I opened, but I did get some nice ones. Gargoyles cards, which I was delighted with, were added Disney Lorcan.

No matter which part of Disney Lorcan you like, Starter Decks and Illumineer’s Trove are great ways to start diving into Whispers in the well. The Boost mechanic and new Whispers cards are pretty interesting, and it’s great to see the TCG continuing to grow at this point in its lifespan.
