Texas games Thursday will feel warmer than the Sahara desert, because a heat dome above the region sends three-digit arrow temperatures.
In the center and southern Texas, the values of the heat index – a measure of what the conditions resemble when air temperatures and humidity are combined – ranges from 105 degrees to 108 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday. These temperatures “feel” are warmer than certain parts of the Sahara desert in North Africa, where several Moroccan cities were to reach the 80s and bottoms of the 90s F.
Several cities in Texas, including Houston, San Antonio and Austin, could establish new daily temperature records on Thursday. And there will be little relief from the heat dome in the coming days.
According to the National Weather Service, the Muggy conditions and “maybe even downright oppressive” will linger throughout the weekend and until next week.
Texans are not unrelated to high heat and humidity, but the conditions for this week are more common in the heart of summer than in May.
A thermal opinion remains in force in the counties of Atascosa, Bexar, Frio, Medina, Uvalde and Wilson until 8 pm Local time on Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning that hot temperatures and high humidity “can cause heat diseases”.
In a post earlier this week on X, the weather service said that people “will not be acclimatized to this type of heat so early in the year and therefore the risk of heat -related disease is higher than normal”.
The heat wave at the start of the season has already broken several records. New daily temperatures daily were set Wednesday in Austin, San Antonio and Del Rio, Texas. A 100 F summit was registered at Austin-Bergstrom International Austor, Breaking the previous record for May 14 on 96 F which was established in 2003. San Antonio reached 102 F, breaking the previous daily record of the city of 97 F which was set in 2022. And a summit of 104 F was recorded in Del Rio, which was established in 2003 in 2003 in 2003 F.
Although it is difficult to link the extreme individual weather events to climate change, studies have shown that global warming increases the frequency, duration and intensity of heat waves in the world. The hottest 10 years on the planet since 1850 have all occurred in the last decade, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the last two years have beat global temperature recordings.
The extreme heat of this week should continue to cook Texas and certain parts of the South and the Center of the United States on Friday and weekends. The values of the heat index across Texas should be between 100 F and 110 F to Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
“No matter how you cut it, it will be a very hot weekend throughout the center of Texas which probably extends at the beginning of next week,” said meteorological service in its long-term forecasts.
