“For more than 20 years under their property, Ben & Jerry’s stood up and spoke in favor of peace, justice and human rights, not as abstract concepts, but with regard to real events in our world,” he added, noting that their independence was negotiated in their purchasing agreement. “It is deeply disappointing to conclude that this independence, the very basis of our sale in Unilever, has disappeared.”
Indeed, Jerry noted that it no longer seemed to him to participate in Ben & Jerry.
“From the start, Ben and I believed that our values and the pursuit of justice were more important than the company itself,” said Jerry. “If the company could not defend the things we believed, then it was not worth a business at all.”
