The Houston Texans have gone through the entire 2025 season thus far without the services of wide receiver Tank Dell and running back Joe Mixon.

Dell has remained on the shelf since the end of last season after suffering a catastrophic knee injury that required a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Meanwhile, Mixon has been on the non-football injury list since the offseason after suffering an unspecified foot injury.

With the playoffs approaching, here’s what we know about Dell and Mixon’s chances of facing each other at some point in 2025.

Will Tank Dell play this season?

Dell is not expected to play this season.

Dell suffered a dislocated patella in Week 16 last season. On top of that, Dell tore his ACL, MCL, LCL and suffered meniscus damage, which is about the worst possible combination of injuries he could have suffered.

Although general manager Nick Caserio has never ruled Dell out of playing this season, there hasn’t even been the slightest suggestion that the talented youngster would return at some point this season.

Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to wait until the 2026 campaign to see Dell back on the field.

Will Joe Mixon play this season?

Mixon is also not expected to play this season.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mixon is expected to remain on the NFI list until the end of the campaign.

“RB Joe Mixon is not expected to play this season as he is dealing with a foot injury that occurred during the offseason,” Rapoport said in November. “Mixon likely remains on the physically unable to perform list throughout the season.”

However, there is still a glimmer of hope for Mixon, as he pushed back on NFL Network’s insider report shortly after.

“Now everyone is looking for news and clickbait,” Mixon said in response to Rapoport’s post. “But I’m just curious, Ian, how do you know more about me than I do?”

It’s nice to see what little hope Mixon has, but there’s no indication he’ll play this season, so we don’t expect to see him again until the 2026 campaign.
