Shannon Sharpe settles the trial of $ 50 million in rape

The Hall-Famer of the NFL and Podcaster Shannon Sharpe paid a trial brought by a woman, who accused her of raping her twice over a period of two months last year in her home in Las Vegas.

Tony Buzbee, lawyer for Jane Doe, announced on Friday that an agreement had been concluded to resolve the trial. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

“The two parties recognize a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “After prolonged and respectful negotiations, I am happy to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed resolution.”

In a trial brought in April before the State Court of Nevada, the accuser alleged that Sharpe “had violently assaulted sexually and raped anciently”. She asked at least $ 50 million.

In a press release published on X attributed to his lawyer Lanny Davis, Sharpe appointed his accuser and cited text messages which, according to him, prove that the relationship was consensual. He said that he “categorically denies all allegations of coercion or fault – in particular the raw lie of” rape ” – and would not submit to what he considers a blatant attempt at blackmail”.

Sharpe later said that he “chose to temporarily withdraw” from ESPN, with plans to come back in time for the pre-season of the NFL.

Sharpe and the woman met in 2023 in a gymnasium in Los Angeles, according to the complaint. They quickly concluded a relationship, which included consensual sex, which later became violent, said the trial.

After having moved to Las Vegas, the woman alleged that Sharpe, who also moved to the region, confronted her and asked her to take her home. Once there, she said he had forced her to perform oral sex before penetrating her.

Three months later in January, Sharpe would have attacked it a second time, said the trial. He “seized her – downwards and positioning her to carry out oral sex, which lasted about two minutes,” said the complaint. “Then Sharpe repositioned her and forced himself roughly in her.”

The trial brought a complaint for the sexual battery, as well as for an intentional infliction of emotional distress for the alleged verbal violence of Sharpe, among others. Sharpe was also prosecuted before the New York State Court by an ex-girlfriend, who alleges that he forced her to carry out oral sex.
