What you need to know about recording calls on your iPhone

If you’ve ever had an interview or work meeting over the phone, you know it can be difficult to concentrate on the call and take notes at the same time. Apple introduced call recording to your iPhone In 2024so you can pay attention to the call without missing anything important.
Call recording can be useful for people who use their iPhone for work or business purposes, or to follow important instructions given over the phone. Once a call is recorded, it is saved to your phone and you can listen to the call again or read the transcript in your Notes app.
Before recording calls, check your local call recording laws. According to the legal resources website Justia, many states are single-consent states, meaning only one person must consent to a phone call being recorded. In some states, such as California, it is illegal to record a call without the consent of both parties.

Here’s how to record a call and read the call transcript.
What to Know About Recording Phone Calls on Your iPhone
Recording a call on your iPhone is pretty simple. Once you’re on a call with someone, tap More in the lower left corner of your screen, then tap Call recording.
After that, you and the person on the other line will hear a 3-second countdown and an automated voice saying, “This call will be recorded,” followed by a tone.
You can stop the call recording at any time by hanging up or tapping the Stop button on your screen. If you press the Stop button, the same automated voice will then say: “This call is no longer recorded.” You can then continue your conversation without it being recorded.
Where to find phone call recordings on iPhone
After recording a call, you can find the recording in your Notes app. It will be saved as “Call Recording” in the app, but you can rename it whatever you want, just like you would any other note in the app.
To listen to the recording, tap the note and press the Play button. You can also fast forward or rewind the recording just like you would any other song or podcast.
If you want to read the transcript, press the Preview button under the Play button. The transcription will occupy the entire screen.
In this new screen you can tap on the three dots (…) in the upper right corner, then tap Add a transcription to the note to transfer a copy of the transcription to the recording note. This allows you to scroll through the transcription and listen to the recording again at the same time.
Once the transcript is in the note, you can scroll through it to find what you’re looking for. To save time, you can also tap the three dots (…) in the upper right corner and tap Search in note to search for a specific word in the transcription.
