What you need to know about mail categories on your iPhone

Apple announced during its global conference for developers on June 9 that the next version of the iPhone operating system is called iOS 26. The technology giant said that iOS 26 would bring a transparent glass design to icons and menus, it will have a new game application and much more to your iPhone. But when Apple published iOS 18.2 In December, it introduced new feature in your messaging application that sorts your incoming emails in different categories for you, called categories.

Technological advice

“The messaging application automatically sits your emails in the categories to help you find and manage messages faster,” wrote Apple online. But if you don’t like how the categories work in the mail, no worries, you can return your application to look like the update.

Here is what you need to know about messaging categories and how to deactivate the functionality so that your application looks like update.

What are messaging categories?

Messaging categories are similar to the categories you would find in Gmail. The application filters your emails in one of the four categories: primary, transactions, updates and promotions.

Reception email

E-mails with receipts, as well as ordering and delivery information, fill in the category of transactions, and new, social and other subscription emails go to updates. E-mails with special offers and offers go to promotions, as you can imagine.

The main category is more difficult to identify. Apple says in the application that primary is for “messages that matter most”. I used the redesigned application since its launch in beta version, and during this time, my main category was filled with my wife’s emails, customer service and even reimbursement information. It’s a bit of a tote category.

Can I change a messaging category?

You can for most messages but not all. Here’s how.

1 and 1 Press Mail.
2 Press the Transactions, Updates or Promotions tab, then press a message.
3 and 3 Press the three points () in the upper right corner.
4 Faucet Categorization.

Then you can manually categorize the messages of a sender given to another category. Unfortunately, all of a sender’s messages will go to the new category, which could be embarrassing. Once, I ordered tickets for a show in a local theater, and the email was filtered at promotions. I moved the email with these tickets to primary, but now all the emails of this theater – including offers and sales – go in my main category. Not being able to change this categorization is boring.

It is important to note that you can recategrate an email from promotions to offers, then return to promotions without problem. The only emails that cannot be reclassified are those in primary school.

If you don’t like messaging categories, you can delete them so that the application looks like update. Here’s how.

1 and 1 Press Mail.
2 Press the three points () in the upper right corner of the application.
3 and 3 Faucet List display.

Now your emails will fill the mail from top to bottom when they arrive in your reception box. There is also a category of messaging called All mail This seems to merge the new categories with the list view, but you may have missed it as I did. To find All mailGo to the mail with the activated categories and drag the category bar near the top of the mail to the left to reveal the All mail. Press this and you will always see the tabs of the categories at the top of the mail, but all your mail will be displayed in the list because it lands in your reception box.
