I have already sold my switch 2 and I don’t regret it

Like so many people, I impatiently awaited the launch of the Switch 2, and I could not believe it when the day finally arrived. However, in an unprecedented decision for me, after spending a lot of time with him in recent weeks, I ended up selling it.

Although I feared first that I may have sold it a little too quickly, I am really happy to have done it, and for reasons much more than I made it at the start.

It’s like a 1.5 switch

The former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, expressed my feelings about Switch 2 during an interview with Easy Allies. When the Switch 2 was announced, he said that he had the impression that Nintendo lost his identity and that he was “a little disappointed because they did not disappoint everyone”.

Nintendo’s greatest force is how the company innovates. Although I understand that he put the high bar with the switch, it seems that his successor is simply a more powerful version. Yes, being able to use the Joy-Con as a mouse is nice, but it’s really everything about unique additions. Even social characteristics are dated and have been incorporated by rival consoles there are several generations.

The switch is an incredible console, and many of us have said for years that a stronger switch is really all we wanted. I recognize that, in addition to the fact that, from the point of view of the company, Nintendo made a safe decision with the Switch 2. Nevertheless, I cannot help lament for the next generation of consoles, nothing will really change with the way we play on their new platform.

The current software range does not justify the barrier at the entrance

Nintendo

Since the Wii made its debut, I have always considered the new Nintendo equipment as a complement to an Xbox or PlayStation. Their consoles have never lived up to power with their competitors, but their first game matches have always been unrivaled. Unfortunately, the range of Switch 2 is sorely lacking in this front, and this includes third -party exclusives of the console.

Nintendo’s heavy striker is undoubtedly Mario Kart WorldConsidering that it is the game they revealed with Switch 2, and it is strongly presented in console marketing. After spending tens of hours with it, I can guarantee that it is an incredible game, but that does not justify the bare minimum of $ 500 that you need to spend to play it, not to mention the other hidden costs of having a Switch 2.

Regarding exclusives among the parties, this is the only new title available at launch. The others are “Switch 2 editions” of the games to which we have already played before, or third -party games that you have probably already played on other consoles or PC. Donkey Kong Bananza It looks great, but it will not be released for another month, and third -party exclusives like Duskbloods have only vague liberation windows. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is one of the titles that I look forward to the most this year, but it will also be available on the switch. He will play better on the Switch 2, and, of course, I would have liked to be able to use mouse commands, but that will not ruin the experience for me.

People often say that a console is an investment, and that is absolutely the case, but there are not enough things for the Switch 2 at the moment so that I can justify keeping it. It will cost as much a year or two at the end of the line as now, and it will also have a much better range of games.

Other portable consoles offer a similar experience

When I discussed the software, you may have thought that playing games on the go is one of the biggest calls in Switch 2, but we don’t suffer from this front. Sony, Microsoft and other companies plunging into PC equipment have seen how critical switch is, and now have their own versions. As soon as I acquired my change in 2017, I realized that I wanted to be able to have this kind of portability with PC or PlayStation games, and now I do it.

An Xbox only in the name.

I have had my steam bridge for almost two years, and it is difficult to imagine life without it. Having such easy access to almost all my Steam library is such a boon, and the Switch 2 asks me to pay these games again for an almost identical experience. I will give credit to the Switch 2 and say that it is good to be able to play Switch games that work better, but it comes back to my previous point: if I can already play them on the Switch, why bother with the slight upgrade?

You could say that physical play cartridges work in favor of Switch 2 because collectors will have a tangible version of the game, and they will save a precious storage space. The game cards kill this argument, because it seems that the majority of third -party publishers choose to use them.

Offering the worst of the two worlds, you are attached to a physical cartridge while needing the storage that a digital purchase requires, and you must be online to download the game. Nintendo has announced that they had “no plans” to use game cards for the titles of the first parties, but if most third -party publishers are, I can once again use something like my steam game.

$ 80 games and the C button leaves a bad taste in my mouth

Nintendo

Curiously, one of the most disappointing things about Switch 2 for me is not necessarily the console itself, but the Nintendo anti-consumption business practices that involve it. The most obvious is that games can now cost $ 80, as Mario Kart World. I am already mentality that asking people to spend $ 70 for games is a high demand, but this increase is not something that I can support.

Mario Kart World Has really doing a lot, but he certainly does not win his price. If the whole DLC future is free, I would say that it is worth $ 80, but if that were the case, Nintendo would surely have articulated this now. There is simply not enough solo content, and to play with others online, you need to pay even more for a Nintendo Switch subscription online.

Regarding online, another overwhelming aspect of Switch 2 is that the button is locked behind a paid wall. This is true, if you want to use GameChat’s social features, that Nintendo should have implemented several generations, you need an online subscription Nintendo Switch. I must note that there is a period of free access until March 31, 2026, so that everyone can currently use it, but after that, you are not lucky. The button is a big problem, and there is an easy solution, but we will have to see if Nintendo changes their position on it.

With the way I talked about Switch 2, you might think I hate him. In fact, I think it’s an excellent console, and I’m sure most of the people who have a time enjoying it with it. $ 450 is a just price for what you get, and seeing so much third -party support is a big victory for Nintendo. That being said, I recently noticed that each time someone asked me if I recommended buying a switch 2, my answer was a very fast “no”.

These are these conversations that made me realize that I regretted having bought one myself that led me to sell it. I have never sold a Nintendo console before and I was afraid of having been too hasty, but I feel honestly better. I am sure on the line, I will revisit the idea of taking one, but that does not have enough to do it for the moment.
