What is blood sugar affects brain function

Anyone who, including people with diabetes, can take measures to protect their brain health. A healthy food, regular exercise, blood pressure management and social commitment all play a role in saving cognitive function.

Physical activity can be particularly beneficial for the brain health of people with type 2 diabetes. A combination of resistance training and aerobic exercise can even help stimulate cognition.

At the very least, it seems that regular physical activity helps to minimize brain atrophy which can result from type 2 diabetes.

“Exercise is probably your greatest ally, with [a] Good food that [minimizes] Bad sugars and fats, ”explains Finney.

Prudent blood sugar management can also provide protective benefits for brain health in people with diabetes.

Intensive blood pressure control efforts can reduce the cognitive decline rate and protect the existing cognitive function in the elderly.

But the strict objectives of blood sugar can be too difficult to manage (and are therefore not recommended) for people with complications of severe diabetes or cognitive or functional deficiencies.

“The use of drugs to maintain well -controlled blood sugar is important,” adds Finney. “Evidence during decades suggest that certain classes of drugs used for diabetes can help some people with Alzheimer’s disease, but it is a current research area.”

“Make sure your diabetes is well controlled by visiting your primary care doctor or your endocrinologist,” said Adimiminolam. “If not, ask your doctor how you could go to your goals.”
