The F1 champion, the seven times, Lewis Hamilton, moved from Mercedes to Ferrari in the hope of winning his eighth F1 title. However, this seems to be a distant dream when the Scuderia follows McLaren and Mercedes in the manufacturers’ championship. The Briton recently released and identified how a winning car was his priority with Ferrari for the 2026 season.
George Russell won the Canadian 2025 GP, which placed Mercedes on the table of racing laureates alongside Red Bull and McLaren. Ferrari is the only best team that has not won a single race during the 2025 season so far.
Lewis Hamilton thought about the performance of the SF25 after the Canadian GP. While the Briton was talking about the performance and upgrades brought by Ferrari, he also noted his priority with the Scuderia for the 2026 season. Lewis Hamilton explained how a winning car was a must for him and the Italian team in the coming season.
Lewis Hamilton said (via Racingnews365):
“There have been times in my career when you have had a lot of upgrades very, very early in the season, then you complain very early, then you stop and rinse. And sometimes it was slower. Here, it is also during the last year of this generation of cars, more difficult to find performance. And also, keep the focus on next year.
“The fact is that with this car, I hope that we can always fight for second place in the manufacturers. It would be great. But I want a car that can win next year. So it’s priority,” added Lewis Hamilton
The 2026 season will bring a new set of regulations, which will modify the chassis and the power units. The latest major changes in power units took place more than a decade ago in 2014 when F1 moved away from V8 with natural suction towards the turbo hybrid engines of 1.6 L.

Lewis Hamilton brought a major upgrade package to the SF25 at the start of the European leg of the season. However, the Scuderia was still at least a few tenths of McLaren’s rhythm. When Hamilton was asked if Ferrari had upgrades in the pipeline to attend the Papaya team, the Briton recommended that the team was going to the orientation of next year’s car. He said:
“I don’t know, if I’m honest. I don’t know what upgrades we come. We haven’t had an upgrade for some time. We will continue to push with what we have, but before too early, I will simply focus on next year. So, build foundations this year, learning the tools in terms of structure, in terms of our processes, by nailing them, so when we arrive next year, we will be with the car we really want. ”
Ferrari would bring a new set of upgrades to Austrian GP, which includes an improved rear suspension.
