“He was our best player”

Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system has received many criticisms at Manchester United, but it seems here to stay with regard to the manager and this can see a star player continue to suffer.

Amorim: “I’m not going to change”

A 2-1 victory against the first six rivals of Chelsea has at least gave Amorim a glimmer of hope very necessary, but that does not remove the problems he still has in his man United.

The victory over the Blues saw the former boss of the sports club reaching his ninth Premier League victory in about 10 months in charge, summarizing the work which is still to come to Old Trafford. However, even with such a dismal record, Amorim insisted that his 3-4-2-1 system will not change anytime soon.

The manager told journalists after a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Manchester City: “I understand and accept that it is not a record that you should have at Manchester United.

“There are a lot of things, you have no idea what happened during these months but I will not change. When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. Otherwise, you have to change man.”

A player who has struggled to make his mark in the current system in recent times is Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder was forced to settle for a deeper role in front of the three rear rather than one of the two most advanced positions. Consequently, he contributed to a single open goal all the season, which came against Chelsea the last time.

According to former player Lee Sharpe, however, it is not the captain who suffers the most under Amorim. Instead, it is another of the best players from United who has trouble finding his feet.

Lee Sharpe reveals why Amad has “suffered” under Amorim

According to Sharpe, it was Amad Diallo who “suffered” from the reign of Amorim. The winger was the “best player” of United in stages last season in the advice of former Ace Old Trafford, but was now limited by being invited to play a certain number of different roles instead of nailing a single one.

“When you are a winger who plays in the back, having to defend you from your corner flag, he takes you a little to go and do it at the other end.

“He was our best player in the future for the first games of our last season, but he had this injury. I don’t think it’s great for someone like him to play No. 10, then Wing Back, then elsewhere. It throws you a little pace.

“He is a wide player, so it’s very difficult to return as No. 10. It does not make him any favor. He has definitely suffered from Amorim’s formation.”

Without a goal all the season and with a single help with his name, the figures certainly suggest that Sharpe is correct in his verdict. Alas, just like his training, Amorim is unlikely to change things anytime soon.
