What happens to your body when you add Tongkat Ali to your diet

Ali’s stick (Eurycoma Longifolia) is a flower plant in Southeast Asia used as a medicinal grass to stimulate athletic and sexual performance, reduce stress, prevent bone loss and control blood sugar. The evidence in support of these affirmations are mixed and the overuse of this remedy based on traditional plants can cause liver lesions.

Jump at the main dishes to remember.

1. The sexual function can improve

Several studies have shown that Tongkat Ali can increase testosterone not only in men with low testosterone (called hypogonadism), but also in those with androgen levels (male hormones) otherwise normal.

As testosterone is essential for libido (libido) and the ability to achieve and maintain erections, this effect can help improve sexual performance and even facilitate erectile dysfunction (ED).

Although none of these results has always been proven in research, a 2022 study reported an increase in the number of sperm and quality in men who took Tongkat Ali, demonstrating the power of its androgen effects.

2. This can stimulate sports performance

Some research has shown that Tongkat Ali can improve sports performance due to the increase in testosterone production. The results are largely mixed.

In a pilot study in 2014, 25 older men and women (57 to 72 years old) who took Tongkat Ali for five weeks saw an improvement in muscle strength measured by a simple test.

More recent research involving younger male and female athletes has noted any advantage, suggesting that the androgen effects of Tongkat Ali can be more useful in people with significant hypogonadism.

3. You may have reduced stress and anxiety

Some evidence suggests that Tongkat Ali can help alleviate anxiety and stress by reducing the levels of the cortisol stress hormone. This, in turn, can improve the effects of the increase in testosterone, which promotes feelings of well-being.

In a small human trial conducted in 2013, adults with moderate stress experienced a drop in cortisol and an increase in testosterone levels after four weeks. They also subjectively reported less tension, anger and confusion than others given a placebo (fictitious drug).

4. You can sleep better

Tongkat Ali can improve sleep and facilitate insomnia by helping to normalize the circadian rhythm (the body sleeping cycle of the body which operates the body normally).

With insomnia, the normal liberation of cortisol is disturbed, which makes him peak during his sleep (leading to a sleep disturbance) and drop during the transition from sleep to awakening (when it is supposed to culminate). By taking Tongkat Ali before bedtime, you can theoretically correct this imbalance.

This effect is highlighted by animal studies in which Tongkat has helped to restore the sleep -sleep cycle and promote sleep in mice with induced insomnia. Additional research is necessary in humans.

5. This can help repair brittle bones

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become brittle due to the gradual loss of bone mineral. Tongkat Ali can help slow progression by increasing testosterone, which stimulates the addition of bone minerals.

In an animal study, the androgen effects of Tongkat Ali have contributed to increasing osteoblasts (cells that form bones) and decrease osteoclasts (cells that break down bones) in rats with induced osteoporosis. Additional research is necessary to see if the same effects can be carried out in humans.

6. You can have better blood sugar control

Some early research suggests that Tongkat Ali can help people manage their blood sugar (glucose) and in turn control or prevent type 2 diabetes.

Animal studies suggest that stimulating testosterone production by Tongkat Ali increases the number of beta cells in the pancreas that secrete insulin. Insulin, in turn, improves the transport of glucose in cells for fuel, reducing blood sugar and reducing the risk of resistance to insulin.

As with other medical conditions, the effect of Tongkat Ali on blood sugar in humans remains defective.

Is it sure to take?

Tongkat Ali has been used for centuries in Southeast Asia to treat a range of medical conditions, generally with few side effects. Despite this, Tongkat Ali presents possible risks in certain groups, some of which may be serious.

The possible side effects of Tongkat Ali understand:

  • Overturned stomach
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash

A greater concern is the risk of liver damage that can occur when Tongkat Ali is overused or taken for a long time. The risk is most important in people with preexisting liver disease in whom certain Tongkat Ali chemicals can be hepatotoxic (toxic for the liver). For this reason, Tongkat Ali should not be used if you have a known liver disease, as cirrhosis.

Tongkat Ali must also be avoided in men with prostate cancer because most types are sensitive to testosterone, which means that testosterone can promote their growth.

The same goes for the use of Tongkat Ali in children or pregnant or breastfeeding. The androgenic effects of the grass on these individuals are unknown and must be avoided to be sure.

How much should you take?

There are no directives for the appropriate use of Tongkat Ali. Based on clinical research, daily doses between 200 and 500 milligrams per day were used safely for eight weeks.

As a rule, never take higher doses than what is listed on the product label. Before starting the treatment, talk to your health care provider to make sure that the supplement is sure for you and does not interact with the drugs you take.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not approve of Tongkat Ali – nor any other over -the -counter dietary supplement – for the treatment of any disease.

How to choose supplements

Food supplements are not regulated in the United States as prescription drugs. To ensure purity and security, opt for supplements that have been voluntarily subject to certification by independent organizations such as US Pharmacopeia (USP), ConsumerLab or NSF International.

Certification does not mean that the supplement works but that it contains the ingredients listed on the product label in good quantity and without contaminants.

Main to remember

  • Tongkat Ali is a plant -based remedy designed to stimulate testosterone, improve sexual and athletic performance, improve sleep and moods and help the treatment of osteoporosis and diabetes.
  • The evidence in support of these complaints is low, and Tongkat Ali should only be used after consultation with a health care provider. Tongkat Ali is not approved to treat any medical condition.
  • Tongkat Ali should not be used in children, pregnant people or breastfeeding, or people with liver disease or prostate cancer.
